Sometimes we are afraid of the passage of time, due to the accelerated pace of the life that we lead…and the pressure we exert on ourselves to continue living as society dictates. Yoga gives us the power to connect with the present moment, the moment that really matters. Yoga also gives us a unique connection with our inner being, where we can be in a state of peace and disengagement from the external world.

Yoga means union, a millenary practice that achieves harmony--connecting body, mind and soul.

In retrospect, since I began my yoga practice, I have learned something every day, through the good moments as well as through the bad. I see an intense change in my life. From being a person who was always seeking "job stability”, I now understand that what matters is to be happy. It is paramount to know myself and know how I feel inside. Although I still believe in working diligently, I prioritize my happiness, I enjoy the journey and I am at peace with who I am.

Today I feel lucky to have found yoga. Life shows us what we are missing at precise moments. Sometimes the practice of yoga brings forth so many good things that desire becomes a necessity; for me, this habit has become one of them.

One of my favorite things about the practice is that it doesn’t involve competition with another, not even with yourself. Each person goes at their own pace. Personally, I had been practicing for a few months and I already noticed physical and emotional changes, especially the emotional ones. I find a balance between body and soul, which allows me to enjoy a state of fulfillment and happiness, to be calmer, more comfortable in my body; to feel strong, alive and full of energy to meet any challenges that arise. Yoga is not about pushing harder or powering through, rather, it's about attunement with the body and inner balance.

In the philosophy of yoga, both discipline and constant practice are essential. This works in my favor, as I have always enjoyed applying discipline. It is a virtue. When I initiate something, I strive to follow through with it and learn whatever I must in the process.

I continue to engage in daily practice being my own instructor, and I hope never to stop learning, transmitting, inspiring and promoting this discipline that transforms. Yoga may not be for everyone...perhaps you try it and you do not like it...live and gain a feel for your own discipline, it is only your experience that counts, after all.

In short, yoga centers you in the present, teaches you to breathe into the moment, and channels your attention wholeheartedly into what you are currently doing. There is simply no room for more.
