Earlier in the week I was already writing on 'how food should be done' according to different cultures and sometimes how weird this is when you look at it from another perspective.
Well this weeks Ladies of Hive question of the week #87 is exactly also about this.
What weird food combinations do you actually enjoy?

Welcome to the world of Dutch habits! The guilty pleasure of something that every Dutchy will know, and every foreigner will frown upon thinking that Dutchies are literally crazy people (which in fact maybe we are?). We call this dish 'Friet Oorlog' in the South of Holland and 'patatje oorlog' in the Northern part of Holland.
Why already two names to start with? Good question you are asking there. This is actually a cultural difference in the same country where the consensus on what is right will never be reached. We just call it different and this is also something from what you will know from which region people are from. Even funnier, Holland is divided in North and South by a couple of big rivers and here we call that 'the French fries border'. In the South of these rivers people will say friet, and in the North of these rivers people will say patat.
Then the sauces and toppings on your fries, that is the best guilty pleasure discussion around. In other countries people love to drown their precious fries in ketchup, but in Holland we do this in mayonaise.
The funny thing already is when you looking for a free image of mayonaise on the web you will hardly find one, while ketchup pictures are everywhere to be found. Mayo is the minority.

Dutch mayonaise also tends to be a lot sweeter than in other countries. In a lot of countries there is a hint of sourness in there, we like it sweetened.
But back to Frietje oorlog, my guilty pleasure of weirdness. So this is actually french fries with mayonaise (sweet one ofcourse) peanut sauce, onions and even curry sauce (but only if you ask me, that isn't done everywhere).
What a crazy combination of sauces right? I get it, this sounds weird to you. But literally in Holland when you order this, everyone will know what you mean and you should try it. Maybe the #hivefest people in Amsterdam will enjoy this as well! Hint hint.....
