Recently the brown dog had dug a hole in the back garden to get into my house. I happened to catch him going around peeing on my fruit tress. He was very audacious and ran back to pee on the lycee tree before running off into the banana grove. This was one emotional and stubborn dog who wanted to have everything his way. I couldn’t find my orange cats after the commotion and loud chasing noises. Finally I found them on the window ledge of the second floor. They didn’t even spot the brown dog; I was much faster than my cats at noticing the intruding dog. I could rest a bit easy since my gardener has blocked the two holes at the back of the garden with bamboo sticks.

I had no idea that having cats meant that they would become like members of my family whom I felt a lot of attachment and concern for their safety. My effort to make them eat less and do more exercises also failed! They had a way of making me feeling guilty for starving them too many hours. Kwan was so brave, she came to my chair to meow about being so hungry. She wouldn’t normally approach me like that. I ignored her but she put her two paws on my lap while complaining that they had nothing to eat the whole day. So, I had to respond to those painful meowing and gave orange cats some food. I have to think of other ways to reduce their weights.

To my surprise, Kwan turned out to be the one who always jumped on her brother and gave him a painful bite. She provoked Joan into a fight even though Joan was much bigger. In the past I often caught the second scene of Joan retaliating Kwan and I had to rescue Kwan from his anger. During the last few times, I observed that Kwan liked to attack Joan while he was sleeping comfortably. I began to suspect whether Kwan was a bit jealous as I often showed my fondness for Joan.

Last week, I was awakened by loud cats’ fight. So, I had to get up and chase the nasty stray cats away. But I couldn’t find any stray cats. It seemed Joan was having a big fight with Kwan. I couldn’t believe my eyes. They were still growling at each other. I wondered what had happened whether one cat had gone crazy. I was worried that they wouldn’t be close to each other again. I decided to be very quiet and gentle; I wouldn’t say any bad words to make either of them feeling bad.

I had to separate the two cats; so I placed them at different corners of the house. Let them have some space and time to cool down while I cleaned up the mess on the stairs. Kwan has leaked some drops of water as she was really frightened by Joan’s angry reactions. I had no idea what Kwan had done to provoke such anger. Then I went to have a nice calm talk with Joan; I asked him to forgive his sister and that there were only two of them left in my orange cat family. Brother should look after the younger sister though she could be very naughty sometimes. I also had a gentle talk with Kwan telling her to be nice to her brother. I reminded her that she couldn’t live without Joan; she would be very lonely and sad without her brother.

After about half an hour, I saw both cats went to sleep together on their favourite table. It’s such a relief to see orange cats forgetting about the past and just be loving towards each other again. So, I praised them for being nice to each other and told them to unite in being alert against stray dogs and cats. A few days later they were still behaving as lovingly to each other as usual.

From now on, I would have to be more observant about changes in my cats’ moods abs behaviours. I hoped it was nothing to do with brain disorder or effect of some chemicals in their brains. I have started to give them some of my supplements to protect against coronavirus which had spike proteins and prions (that could affect nerve cells). Hopefully, orange cats would be happy, healthy and safe in my house and garden for many years.
