Distance is a subject which can be quite difficult to capture in a photograph. Especially since photographs are two-dimensional.
One of the tricks you can do is find leading lines that can guide your eye into the image, into the distance in this case.
As a cyclist and a photographer I've taken loads of photos of roads that seem to disappear in the distance. For the Qurator's Photo Quest I've chosen this picture I took of a road in the North of Italy with a vineyard on the left, olive trees on the right and the mountains in the distance.
Just a perfect place for a long bicycle ride.
Another road that disappears in the distance and also another country. Sweden this time. This country has a lot of trees and also endless roads that end up in the distance.
But I don't have to go abroad for endless roads; we have them in the Netherlands as well. Below is a picture I took of a cycling path through the dunes. All along the Dutch coast there are cycling paths through the dunes. You can ride long distances through the dunes. And one of the many advantages is that there are no cars allowed on these roads.
These are three examples of distance I found in my photo archive. Personally I think the first photo from Italy is the best one for the Qurator's Photo Quest. Do you agree with me?
