Am no Shakespeare but I believe I have what you would really need to get your poem game and basically writing going.
I would be doing a kinda review using the poems I have written and shared on steemit so you would understand better.
Writing involve basically talent and passion but one can grow. I do believe after you read this you be a better writer if you use these.
When writing its important you begin with figuring out the following.
TOPIC
A poem just like everything else starts when you have decide what you want. This therefore is settled when you choose a topic and concentrate on it to avoid mixing things up and loosing focus.
I base my writing mostly on LOVE , love conquers all and the world be a better place when we learn to show love.
CATEGORY
When writing a poem you do not necessarily have to write to category.
Once you you have selected a topic , you are good to go.
Its is really important that when you start or you are a beginner , you use words that rhyme they are at the basic level of poetry. A poem doesn't have to make sense grammatically; what does matter is that your audience get the message you want to communicate using your own words.
DESCRIPTION
Basically this is your whole poem . When writing a poem you are just describing something so description is like you main ingredients to your poem and decides how tasty I comes out.act, you could write a whole poem just describing something.
To get started in this descriptive process, ask yourself questions.
Maybe how does this make me feel??
What can I compare it with..??
THE FIRST STANZA
This is basically what makes you readers stay or go . To be frank if you take a good look at what you write you should decide if its good enough. Nothing can really be perfect or represent your thoughts, but having something with purpose is really something. Your grow and keep your audience that way.
RHYME AND RHYTHM
Just like I said earlier for beginners is pretty important that you rhyme. For starters it gives confidence and help you improve. For this example, the poem would use words that rhyme

You should be cautious not to go looking up words that rhyme. Using the one you know helps you grammatical. You can read stuff for your vocabulary but not pulling from them.
Note: This example only rhymes at the end sentence to make your work easier for now.
STANZAS
Writing the other stanzas require that you stick to the topic but if you have a good first stanza it practically just flows.
Make sure to stick to the topic no matter other Ideas that may keep coming at you.
Making a draft of them is permitted to enable you get the job done and maybe proceed to them.
READING AS YOU WRITE
Reading when writing helps you the author to be literally inside your poem.
This so enables fluidity
KNOWING WHEN TO DROP THE PEN
When you write its good you know when to stop . A poem just like everything else must have an end but the length or stanzas to which you write is based on your desecration. I prefer longer poems when I write I feel I get everything out. Mostly do what works for you.
HAVING A COPY
I have about a dozens poem I have written and I have most saved up. I believe you should be proud of your writing. I also share on steemit to enable people appreciate my work . To me its also a way of saving it as I can always access them.
TIPS.
Reading helps improve vocabulary, your writing and the way you speak.
I would say for me a movie opened me up so you decide the way you use.l watch movies that are summed up am not doing an advert but for me "CALIFORNICATION" was it. Probably if you have seen it you understand.
Check up new words in the dictionary to be conversant with them and use the often.

HAIKU
4-STANZA
DIAMANTE
LIMERICK
FREE VERSES etc
Pick what works for you or what you are comfortable with.
Writing is easier when you write about something you have a lot of experience and maybe your passion what drives you.
Reading other peoples poems as the help shape your writing . Reading renowned authors help but as you know PLAGIARISM is no good. I know of some wonderful writers on steemit you can visit their blog to 
This should be what we all know already.
People may just be around to bring you down some on purpose other because they do not understand or writing is not what they do. Be advised to avoid them.
