She sat back against the hard wood of her most uncomfortable chair and stared up at the ceiling. If she angled her butt a little to the left, the side of the seat wedged against her tail-bone. That was definitely uncomfortable enough to ward off sleep.

No sleep. She'd had no sleep for three days now. Or had it been four days? It probably didn't matter. It could be a week for all she knew.

A small smile touched her lips as small white lights danced overhead. Someone had told her, many moons ago, that if one was to go without sleep for too long that they'd meet their end. For all she knew, the end could've come and gone already. How could one even tell with all this heaviness of the eyelids and lethargy of the arms? She was lucky she'd made it to this darn chair.

That same someone had also told her that sleep was for the weak. So if sleep was for the weak, but if one went without sleep for too long they'd meet their end, how was one meant to filter the weakness from the doom? She wasn't weak, was she? Of course she wasn't. And perhaps if she managed to hold off sleep for an entire week, she'd transform into a super-human of some sort.

With the strain on her eyes right now, it was entirely possible she'd magically attain x-ray vision.

She giggled, then hiccupped, then burst out with a laughter so cacophonous her lungs near burst from her chest. Gasping, she giggled through sharp intakes of breath then slunk off the chair and onto the floor.

Perhaps this was her end. She'd go out in a wave of hilarity, laughing maniacally about the nothingness as strange shapes whorled and writhed just beyond the edge of her sight. There was one right now. Waving at her from the corner of her eye. Giggling, she whipped her head to the right to poke her tongue out at it. Instead, it poked its tongue out at her and flittered to the other corner of her other eye.

Damned thing. It didn't want to be seen.

That was okay, she supposed; she didn't like being seen either.

Hellooooo! 😄

It's Day 1576 of mariannewest@mariannewest's five minute freewrite challenge. The prompt for today is actually Spartan but I went back a couple of days and chose the prompt: No sleep.

I'm actually kind of tired right now. I'm about to go to bed. xD And I have to say this is one of the weirder things I've written in a while.

As usual I wrote something in 5 minutes, then spent another 10 minutes or so adding to it and making it more legible. If something like this could be considered legible. 🤣

Thank you for stopping by and having a read. 😊❤️

If you'd like to join in with the freewriters and the challenges, you can find the daily prompt at mariannewest@mariannewest's profile each and every day! Everyone's welcome. Join usssssssss.

Until next time! 📚
