It's that time of year where I become a Kitchen Wench for a week solid and make delicious foods to become even fatter with! 😁🤣

It's taken a while to actually get into a relatively festive-cooking mood this time around, mostly thanks to being sick for nearly two months straight, but it'll be Christmas in a few days tomorrow and I need to have noms at the ready.

This isn't going to be a recipe post, but allow me to take you on a journey of joy. Because that's what food is to me. Joy. And it's also why my tummy is large. But... JOY.

First of all we have the easiest of noms. Previously seen in a post I wrote around this time last year — Rum Balls, Delicious Rum Balls! — we have some Rum Balls!

Except these aren't really rum balls. They're whiskey balls. Made with some fine Jack Daniels whiskey, these little guys are our annual gift we take over to our friend's house as we celebrate Christmas Day together.

Mmmm, who can deny such simple, alcoholic delicacies? Not me, that's for sure.

Normally I would make a sherry-infused trifle too, as seen in my post last year xD — Trifle, Delicious Trifle! — there's a theme with my titles, apparently. However, there's another theme that happens with my annual trifle and that theme is: Kaelci layers up a trifle, Kaelci is the only one who eats the trifle. And I know I make fun of my fat stomach, as you may have observed above, but I really don't fancy eating an entire trifle to myself this year.

Instead, I decided to make a Lemon Slice!

Not very Christmassy being yellow instead of red and green, but whatever. It was time to create something a little different and I really fancied a treasured dessert from way back in my past. I don't think I've eaten one of these since I was seven years old. It's time for some nostalgia!

I would write up a detailed post talking about Lemon Slice, Delicious Lemon Slice! but I thought that I'd just chuck it in here in this mash-up post merely talking about food and sharing photos of food rather than explaining the intricacies of food.

I followed this recipe though: BEST EVER Lemon Slice Recipe. And I highly recommend it. The only thing I did differently was add a bit more lemon zest to the base and used an entire cup of icing sugar in the topping as opposed to half a cup.

Back to more Christmassy inspired things though... last year I shared with everyone a tried and true Australian delicacy. The White Christmas. Allow me to share this year's one with you, too!

White Christmas is perhaps one of my favourite things to just munch on throughout the holidays. It's quick to slap together, it sets quick in the fridge, and it stays good for a week assuming you store it properly. It's also delicious!

I'm not really a fan of sultanas/raisins in my desserts, but those little dried fruits are amazing in the White Christmas. It's just not complete without them.

That's about the extent of my Christmas Kitchenning this year, and honestly, I'm surprised I managed to do this much. Standing for long periods of time is really taking it out of me at the moment thanks to lingering post-Covid fatigue, but I managed to make these things and devour them with my family. Except for the whiskey balls, those are still safe and contained and ready for Christmas Day!

The next thing I need to make is a gigantic cocktail pitcher for Christmas Day. 🍷🍹🍸

I have Midori, Malibu, Blue Curacao, Vodka, Soda Water, Lemonade and Pineapple Juice all at the ready. Normally my favourite at-home cocktail recipe is as such:

🍷 a dash of blue stuff
🍷 a couple of dashes of coconut rum
🍷 a heaping of pineapple juice, then enjoy!

But I want to play around with a couple of other things this year... here's hoping they don't turn out terrible. 😅

Until next time,

Merry Christmas! 🎅🎄🍹
