Today I met with three of my friends for dinner. We went to a restaurant near my home. We had a great time and we really enjoyed our food.
We skipped the dessert but I couldn't resist the coffee. As usual, I asked if they serve cappuccino or espresso because it used to be my treat after a dinner before I moved from Europe to Canada.
The waiter surprised me with the reply. "Oh yes, we serve cappuccino." I was very happy with his response. Ten minutes later he brought me my dessert.
I was very disappointed. The waiter apologized for the wait. But it wasn't the waiting that was disappointing. It was the cappuccino itself. The foam was almost not existing and it looked like someone took a sip before I got it brought to my table. I felt bad for the restaurant and servers that they are serving this beverage as cappuccino. I felt sorry for all the customers that ever ordered it.
Two minutes later I started rethinking my feelings. Maybe it was not the restaurant's fault. Maybe it was my own. Expecting a good cappuccino from an average American restaurant? Maybe I should be happy I could even get an expensive 'as close as it can get' cappuccino after all. Was I being too spoiled?
Also, I am not a customer that wants to cause trouble. I drank my coffee and didn't let it ruin my Sunday afternoon with my friends. However, it made a perfect story for my blog.
Lesson learned? Maybe. Maybe from now on I will only order a cappuccino in Italian restaurants. Or save up some money to buy the espresso coffee machine for my home :)
P.S. These photos were taken in Italian coffee shops in Edmonton. They are still my one and only favorite coffee shops.
