Hello, coffee lovers!

Today is International Coffee Day! So, congratulations to everyone who loves this exquisite beverage!

In keeping with this special occasion, this week cinnccf@cinnccf invites us to reflect on how we evolve over time. Who were we the first time we walked into a coffee shop? Who are we now, sitting in that same spot?

These are interesting questions—the kind that make me want to drink more than one cup of coffee while I do some soul-searching to answer them.

I begin with a first sip of coffee at El Mejunje—and then at the home of my city’s young artists and writers—places I have been visiting for so many years that I cannot even recall exactly when I first drank coffee while sitting in their peaceful courtyards, surrounded by trees and magic. Yet, I am certain that those were times when people were far more transparent—more wholesome, let’s say—and one could converse with them for hours on end without ever running out of things to talk about; sadly, that does not happen so often these days.

Who was I when I drank my first cups of coffee here? Surely a teenager with dreams of conquest and self-improvement so vast they defy description in a mere list.

Back then, I was beginning to seek my path as a photographer; I was penning my first lines, dreaming of becoming a writer; I was engaging in a dialogue with the stage as I aspired to become a great theater actor; and I was drinking in every artistic expression that allowed me to discover new ways to question reality and give voice to our concerns. Those were times when I also smiled at life...

I order another coffee and some corn chips with tomato salsa to go with the moment.

Who am I now? Perhaps I haven't fully discovered that yet; I am someone who helps without limits and trusts others too much—and because of that, I keep suffering so many betrayals. I resist changing, at least in that regard. I want to believe that someone with a genuinely transparent heart exists, for instance.

I want to think that my dreams don't die, even though I have managed to fulfill some of them. I want to think that I still smile at life.

Fortunately, these iconic sites of our culture still exist—places where one can continue to savor both coffee and art, and where it is even possible to question reality and dream of building a better future...

Amidst my memories, I order another espresso, savor its aroma, take a sip, and begin to say goodbye—but not without offering each of you a hug of light!

Never stop smiling!

This is my participation in the contest that cinnccf@cinnccf proposes to us through the #CinnamonCupCoffee community.

Thank you very much for your visit!
