It was just another night on duty when I heard a woman's heartbreaking cry coming from the offices. A shudder paralyzed me, but I summoned the courage to investigate.

Shining my flashlight, I checked window by window until I saw her: a woman sitting on the floor, her eyes swollen and her nose bloody, as if she had been brutally beaten.

I held my breath and pushed open the door, but no one was there. I stood petrified, unable to react for what seemed like hours.

Finally, terror got the better of me and I ran for the sentry box like hell.

I locked myself in, trembling with fear. The endless hours before shift change seemed like an eternity.

I heard spectral wailing in every corner, saw shadows gliding through the corridors. It was the longest night of my life.

At dawn, I quit without a second thought. I never returned to that cursed building.

They say that the spirit of a woman murdered by her husband haunts it at night, mourning her terrible end. I no longer want to know, for I saw her with my own eyes.
