Early in the morning I decided to go out with my little girl to walk, and we arrived at John Lennon Park, we were in Vedado, and the park is very close to where we were. Weekend mornings are different from the rest, at that early hour the atmosphere is different, there were few people around, and the sun was still soft, that is why a peace and a different tranquility is felt.
That is the moment when many take advantage to walk their pets, I see many dogs with their owners also enjoying the morning calm. The night before it had rained, and the park showed the traces of that rain. The ground was wet, the grass damp and the trees seemed more alive, with sharp colors, as if freshly washed. That additional freshness gave the place a special air, different from the usual heat.
In these times when cell connectivity is not stable because of the power cuts, many people come to the park because there is a point there where the signal is stronger. Neighbors and young people are seen looking to connect, send messages and take advantage to communicate. It is curious how the park also becomes a digital meeting space besides being a place of recreation.
The nearby street was quiet, with few cars circulating. The noise was gentle, barely interrupted by some engine. This park has many trees and abundant shade, which makes it ideal to sit anywhere. However not all the benches are in good condition, some show the wear of time, and of the lack of maintenance, although there is always a comfortable corner to rest.
The park is quite well known and this is due to the life-size bronze sculpture of John Lennon located on one of the benches. They placed it seated under the shade of a tree, as if it were one more of the many people who come to enjoy the tranquility of the place. Precisely because it is a very famous figure, many tourists come here just to take pictures next to the statue or pay tribute to it. The statue has become a symbol of the place and part of the identity of Vedado.
Besides being a place for walking, on weekends cultural and recreational activities are carried out. On Saturdays, for example, agricultural fairs are organized where the community finds in one same place a great variety of items and fresh products. All this makes the park a space very well known and valued not only by visitors, but also by those who live nearby.
Going out early with my little girl was a good decision. The calm of the morning, the freshness after the rain made this walk a simple memory but full of details. John Lennon Park is more than a place with a famous statue, it is a space that mixes nature, culture and the daily routine of the city.

Temprano en la mañana decidí salir con mi niña a caminar, y llegamos al parque John Lennon, estábamos en el Vedado, y el parque queda muy cerca de donde nos encontramos. Las mañanas de los fines de semana son diferentes al resto, a esa hora temprana el ambiente es distinto, habia pocas personas en los alrededores, y el sol todavía estaba suave, es por eso que se siente una paz y una tranquilidad diferente.
Ese es el momento en que muchos aprovechan para pasear a sus mascotas, veo a muchos perros con sus dueños disfrutando tambien de la calma matutina. La noche anterior había llovido, y el parque mostraba las huellas de esa lluvia. El suelo estaba mojado, la hierba húmeda y los árboles parecían más vivos, con los colores nítidos, como recién lavados. Esa frescura adicional le daba al lugar un aire especial, diferente al calor habitual.
En estos tiempos cuando la conectividad celular no es estable por los cortes eléctricos, muchas personas se acercan al parque porque allí hay un punto donde la señal es más fuerte. Se ven vecinos y jóvenes buscando conectarse, enviar mensajes y aprovechar para comunicarse. Es curioso cómo el parque se convierte también en un espacio de encuentro digital además de ser un lugar de recreación.
La calle cercana estaba tranquila, con pocos autos circulando. El ruido era apacible, apenas interrumpido por algún motor. Este parque tiene muchos árboles y abundante sombra, lo que lo hace ideal para sentarse en cualquier parte. Sin embargo no todas las bancas están en buen estado, algunas muestran el desgaste del tiempo, y de la falta de mantenimiento, aunque siempre se encuentra un rincón cómodo para descansar.
El parque es bastante conocido y esto se debe a la escultura de bronce en tamaño real de John Lennon ubicada en uno de los bancos. La colocaron sentada bajo la sombra de un arbol, como si fuera uno mas de las tantas personas que vienen a disfrutar de la tranquilidad del lugar. Precisamente por ser una figura muy famosa, muchos turistas llegan hasta aquí solo para tomarse fotos junto a la estatua o rendirle tributo. La estatua se ha convertido en un símbolo del lugar y en parte de la identidad del Vedado.
Además de ser este un sitio de paseo, los fines de semana se realizan actividades culturales y recreativas. Los sábados, por ejemplo, se organizan ferias agropecuarias donde la comunidad encuentra en un mismo lugar gran variedad de artículos y productos frescos. Todo esto hace que el parque sea un espacio muy conocido y valorado no solo por los visitantes, sino también por quienes viven cerca.
Salir temprano con mi niña fue una buena decisión. La calma de la mañana, el frescor después de la lluvia hicieron de este paseo un recuerdo sencillo pero lleno de detalles. El parque John Lennon es más que un lugar con una estatua famosa, es un espacio que mezcla la naturaleza, la cultura y la rutina diaria de la ciudad.
