Under the summer sun [EN/ES]

Walking under the sun of this summer in Cuba is usually very exhausting, especially at noon, when the heat and the glare make one wish to be anywhere but outdoors. One always tries to walk under the shade of some vegetation or move along the sidewalk closest to the houses, taking advantage of the protection of the eaves.

This combination of heat, physical effort, and the midday hour, which coincided exactly with my walk, awoke my appetite and made the need to drink something fresh with something to eat appear, along with the idea of being in the shade. That is why I did not think much and entered the first cafeteria I found.

What I most appreciated about that place was being able to sit comfortably in the shade and enjoy a refreshment accompanied by a Cuban-style pizza. The cafeteria was small but very pleasant, with several offers besides pizzas. The decoration of the tables caught my attention, they used vinyl records as placemats, a curious and rustic detail that gave the place personality. The pizza was not the best I have tried, but it was acceptable, and the most important thing is that it helped me recover energy to continue the walk.

I even had unexpected company, a cat that wandered around the tables hoping to receive some piece of pizza. I think in the end it got the reward for its insistence.

Pizza finished, refreshment drunk, and to continue with my walk. The sun never gave in during the whole journey, and the return was just as hot, but I already went with better spirits and the way became easier.

Caminar bajo el sol de este verano en Cuba suele ser muy agotador, sobre todo en el horario del mediodía, cuando el calor y el resplandor hacen que uno desee estar en cualquier lugar menos a la intemperie. Siempre se busca caminar bajo la sombra de alguna vegetación o avanzar por la acera más próxima a las viviendas, aprovechando la protección de los aleros.

Esta combinación de calor, esfuerzo físico y la hora del mediodía, que coincidía justo con mi recorrido, me despertó el apetito e hizo que junto a la idea de estar a la sombra también apareciera la necesidad de tomar algo fresco con algo de comer. Por eso no lo pensé mucho y entré en la primera cafetería que encontré.

Lo que más agradecí de ese lugar fue poder sentarme cómodamente a la sombra y disfrutar de un refresco acompañado de una pizza al estilo cubano. La cafetería era pequeña pero muy agradable, con varias ofertas además de pizzas. Me llamó la atención la decoración de las mesas, usaban discos de vinilo como posaplatos, un detalle curioso y rústico pero que le da al lugar personalidad. La pizza no fue la mejor que he probado, pero estaba aceptable y lo más importante es que me ayudó a reponer energías para continuar el camino.

Incluso tuve compañía inesperada, un gato que rondaba las mesas con la esperanza de recibir algún trozo de pizza. Creo que al final consiguió la recompensa a su insistencia.

Pizza terminada, refresco bebido y a continuar con mi recorrido. El sol no cedió nunca en todo el trayecto, y el regreso fue igual de caluroso, pero ya iba con mejor animo y el camino se hizo mas facil.
