Hello, wonderful people of steemit. Today I wanted to write a fun article about what a soon-to-be dad can expect during his partner's pregnancy. I know a thing or two about this subject, because I have five kids. FIVE. 4 girls, 1 poor, poor boy.
When you find out you're going to be a father, it's terrifying. Whether the pregnancy was planned or not (we've had both!) you will be absolutely scared out of your mind. You created a life, and now you have to actually raise it? Shit.
Your partner will go through a roller coaster of emotions for 9 months. She'll cry a lot, she'll be super gassy for some reason, and she'll probably hit you at some point, too. It'll be for something small, like leaving the toilet seat up.
My least favorite part of pregnancy is the cravings. She might have a license and her own car, but don't expect her to go to the store and get her own shit. That's what you're for. I learned how to get through the city we lived in during her first pregnancy without actually using streets. Just alley ways and parking lots to get to Rite Aid to buy Ben and Jerry's. At least 3 nights a week. Usually around 1:00am.
Another interesting thing about pregnancy is the sex. You won't poke your baby's eye out, don't worry. It's definitely a weird thought though, and you can't help but think about the child inside your wife as you thrust and she tries not to vomit as you drip sweat into her mouth.
Of course, there's positives to pregnancy, too. Eventually the fear turns to excitement. You get to find out the sex of the baby around 18 weeks. From my experience, it'll be a girl. 4/5 chance it's a god damn girl. I love my daughters to death, but come on, 4 girls? Side note: the worst part is that when we had the ultrasound for our son, my daughter had to pee and I was in the bathroom with her when they revealed the sex. So I didn't even get to experience it. Assholes.
You'll get to go baby clothes shopping for the first time. Fair warning: it gets expensive. They've recently started making baby girl clothes with dinosaurs! DINOS! Then you'll need diapers, and formula (although breastfeeding is a lot cheaper!) and all those other baby things that cost money. We use cloth diapers most of the time, which is cheaper, but then you have shit in your washing machine.
Eventually that little bugger will come out and before you know it she (I'm telling you, it's a girl) will be covering your house in glitter. She'll tell you it's fairy dust, but it's glitter and it sticks to E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G!
This post is more or less a ramble of my experience. It's all over the place. It's 3:00am. Give me a break. Give me a follow to see my future posts on child birth, parenting, cloth diapering, etc! I also post about video games, donuts and baseball. Yay!
