A little over a week ago, I wrote a post about my latest endeavour.

Basically, I'm attending my first semester in the 'University of Self Education'. The idea, is to get the equivalent of a college education, by taking responsibility for my own education and learning what is taught in some of the top schools in America in theology.

I thought it would be a cool exercise to track my progress on a few layers and I'm going to share that with you in a second. But first, a little note about my reasons 'why'.

Obviously, to get closer to God. That goes without saying, but here's a worldly reason to put the cherry on top...

To get my associates degree in Christian Discipleship from Andrews University (basically the Harvard of Seventh Day Adventist colleges), we're looking at around a minimum of $29140.

But wait, it gets better....

To get my BA in Religion, let's do the math...

So according to their website, it takes 120 credits to get my degree. And that's fine and dandy, but how much is each credit?

Oh boy.....

So just to get the credits, I'd need $56,400 minimum. Plus all the other fees, stretched out over 4 years....We're looking at around $15,000 a year. Oooops forgot, that's in USD....So with the current exchange rate I'm looking at well over 20k a year.

Not that this isn't on my bucket list one day, it is. I'd love to attend Andrews one day but right now, I like the University of Self Education route ;)

Speaking of which, here's how it is going:

When I'm at work throughout the week, I basically sleep in the truck. Which allows me a lot of time to (write blog posts lol) and dive into my curriculum. After the first week, I'm about 1/3 of the way through each book.

Some are larger and longer books, so I might not be a third of the way through it but overall, that seems to be my pace. And if I keep it up, I'll be done each book in about 2 weeks from now. So let's say, under a month to read....

7 books.

One of the questions that popped up when I mentioned that I'm reading 7 books at once was, how can I remember what I'm reading?

I'm going to school right? So I'm taking a lot of notes....

My phone is filled with paragraphs and points I want to remember when I'm reading. At the end of the day, I transfer the 'big points' to one of my journals. And review the notes as well.

Here's what I have learned during this little experiment of mine...

I'm actually retaining MUCH MORE information this way, while reading these books at the same time. Which is crazy to me because again, up until this point in my life...I'd never read more than one book at a time.

Amazing stuff. So I'm pretty happy so far with my 'education experiment' and you will have to excuse me....I need to go read a book tonight to stay on target!!
