‎
‎The Governor's Aide made this known on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, during the Patience Umo Eno Golden Initiative For All (GIFA) Climate Change Mitigation Programme held at the Ibom-LED Centre, Uyo, to commemorate the 2026 World Environment Day.
‎
‎Speaking on environmental safety at the grassroots, Mrs. Ufot described climate-related hazards as a matter of life and death, noting that stronger winds, extreme heat and environmental degradation pose serious threats to rural communities.

‎She advised residents to reinforce their roofs with durable materials to withstand strong winds, warning that poorly constructed roofs can be blown away and result in fatalities.
‎
‎The SSA also cautioned against wearing black clothing during periods of extreme heat, explaining that dark colours absorb heat and increase the risk of heat stress. She urged residents to drink enough water, clear drainage channels regularly and embrace proper waste management practices.
‎
‎Mrs. Ufot further discouraged indiscriminate waste disposal and bush burning, noting that such practices contribute to environmental pollution and can easily lead to fire outbreaks. She also advised against keeping inflammable substances close to heat sources to prevent fires and explosions.
‎
‎Speaking on government efforts to address environmental hazards, she highlighted the Akwa Ibom State Climate Change Policy, which promotes tree planting, discourages bush burning and encourages nature-based solutions to climate challenges.
‎
‎She also disclosed that her office initiated the ARISE School Safety Initiative to deepen safety awareness at the grassroots through the establishment of safety clubs in schools across the state.
‎
‎According to her, the initiative is designed to instill a culture of safety among students and advance the educational advancement component of Governor Umo Eno's ARISE Agenda.

‎Mrs. Ufot reiterated the importance of emergency preparedness, proper waste management and environmental responsibility, urging residents to equip their homes and institutions with basic emergency response tools, including fire extinguishers.
‎
‎The programme featured interactive sessions on climate change mitigation, environmental sustainability and community-based strategies for promoting safety and resilience among rural populations.
