Sometimes we see things that are just so insane that we are left with no option but to laugh. Stumbling around the streets of Kuala Lumpur the other night I saw these huge pillars of concrete which will eventually support a new flyover and they were all wrapped in plastic!

I thought it was so insane that I had to go back today to take some photos to share with you.

Why would you wrap concrete in cling film? Perhaps as an Art statement but surely not to protect the concrete which will eventually be unwrapped and open to the weather for many years. If someone can explain this nonsense to me I would love to hear an explanation.

Apparently the community was opposed to the new flyover and tried to stop its construction. However without the correct political support in Malaysia the project went ahead anyway. I have heard the people darkly muttering that when the flyover is completed the plastic will just be thrown into the river. I hope this is not the case but you never know in Malaysia.

Why this is was done I am not sure. Where the plastic will end up being disposed of I am not sure. What I do feel is that wrapping concrete in plastic is a bizarre practice that I have not seen anywhere before. It doesn't make sense.

Surely the producer of the plastic is pleased as they sell more. However what consideration for the environment seems to be missing. This is not unusual for Malaysia but if anyone can give me a cogent explanation of what the use of this plastic wrapping of concrete might have been.
