Taking You Down Memory Lane
Streamlined boats and ships line the harbour, firmly attached to the quayside with ropes. Streamlined bodies built for speed to protect our oceans when called on, these photos are from a walk we had in March.
Not having entered a port in a long time it was good to go down, appreciate the love affair most have with water.
Overcast still humid the mood of the harbour was of one silent preparation, not many people around a quiet walk of reflection how we organize. Painted, oiled, spotless standing proud in the water all ready to go on command if needed.
Looking on at the slim lines, perfect fit one can only think of humans always needing to know they are safe, creating massive implements of destruction during time of war, protection in peaceful years.
Had my brother been along he would have given a full description on what each one was used for, past, future and present his love for these huge iron maidens surpassed and surprised me throughout the years.
Sleek and graceful, built for speed covering our 1.5 million square kilometre coastline against anyone entering without an invitation, possibility of facing gun turret on the deck in the front, enough to to get pirates or traffickers out of our seas quickly
Computerization on board with with complex computerized weapons and related systems, living on board may not be easy, sure must be interesting depending on what you decide to study into.
Pretty yellow tank, wonder what this was used for? Was it waiting to be cleaned up and repaired or being readied for the scrapyard.
Old gun no longer manning the station, obviously rusting slowing away, what stories could this tell what happened over the years men swung this around avoiding intruders entering our space by sea or air.
Close to the gun stood quite an established cycad, had he seen the war years, was it spared or perhaps someone just felt like something close to feel like this was home, surrounded by buildings and metal objects.
Glancing over the water, taking in the view of the Bluff, smiling quietly to myself I pondered would this all return to the thick vegetation it had once known. Before the ships and guns arrived with humans this must have been a spectacular sight.
We laid my brother and his daughter to rest at sea that day, went out on the first small craft shown in first photo, (Namacurra boat for harbour patrol), it is still with awe I dwell on my brothers passion and knowledge he shared.
In parting I thought it was a good walk, something to remember, some time to think about how much has happened over the years, taking a small walk in time.
