Time and time in life,
I'm backed against a wall.
But with a twist of truth,
I am the friend of all.
To invent the best thing to say,
was always just so easy.
at the bottom of my heart,
I was trying to make mom happy.
I am often praised,
for my honesty.
If they knew all,
I hide inside of me.
Behind a smile,
the things buried within.
can you blame me?
they told me all was sin.
But oh I rot inside,
stand in convenient cage.
Oh I dread the truth,
this is the liar's wage.
What I get and what it costs,
I am the friend of all.
But when I cross the bridge,
I wish to take the fall.
I wear a hollow crown,
stand in the crowd alone.
The man I really am,
never to be known.
I never received a compliment,
my mask took all of those.
It killed me some every time,
I stand but close to ghost.
To jump at every sound,
to swear empty things.
To tell many secrets,
to kill the one who sings.
Every lie, a piece given away,
I'm as empty as my promises.
I'm devoured with every word,
I've forgotten what honest is.
Now some slight of hand,
and a slight of wrist.
As I die I know,
it isn't me they'll miss.
The last lie I tell,
is one to myself.
The pain you're now feeling,
is but the passing of the night.
