Sometimes it's not only about street photography, but also about giving freedom to thought, or emptying it, or what do I know... Anything that goes beyond the everyday order and makes us create sounds from the image, to then turn them into lines and give them away...

"The mail corner"/"La esquina del correo"

In the post office corner, letters are no longer received, its doors are dead since everyone forgot the paper, since the pencils went to another world, and the distant relatives approached on small screens, killing us all the calligraphic romance.

"Since Cayetana died"/"Desde que Cayetana murió"

Since that day on which Cayetana fell to the ground in the heat of March, her house has lost its paint, the roof has rusted and weeds have grown in the once lively flower garden. There, through the crack in the door, you can see Anastasio's dirty clothes hanging... Anastasio is left alone, his eyes are sad, his light has died, Cayetana has gone and sadness wanders through the house that is falling down.

"The red truck"/"El camión rojo"

The red truck has been dying in Tomás's street for 20 years... It seems never to have finished leaving, it seems to want to stay, as if it wanted to relive its wanderings through the streets of the village, when it cheered up the children in the streets by making them think it was a huge red toy, sounding its horn and spitting out its plume of black smoke that made the old men sitting in the doorways of the houses cough.

T04.jpg
"The green truck"/"El camión verde"

The green truck was hardly missed by anyone. It was so calm, so polite and quiet, that the children hardly looked at it. Moreover, it didn't spit black smoke and the old people in the village didn't cough when it passed by. Inside his cabin there was a wizened man, with an unknown smile and long silences... The same man who one day hung himself by the neck from the mango tree on the Hidalgo estate.

Roberto has been wearing the same shirt and trousers for months... Neighbours say he smells like a tiger when the sun shines on him. However, no one understands why Roberto hangs clothes on his fence every day, clothes he doesn't wear, clothes he washes and dries, only to do it again the next day... A skinny dog guards the rags hanging in the street and it is said that he has already bitten a neighbour who wanted to wear the red shirt, which Roberto has washed seventy times without ever having worn it.

T06.jpg
"Sunday noon"/"Domingo al mediodía"

On Sundays at noon, the village is still, only the old men on bicycles go about their business undaunted, enduring the heat of hell and the humidity that locks the air around their necks.... Ah! Yes, I forgot, the old men and also a guy (not so old) taking strange photos on the streets whose pavement burns the soles.

T07.jpg
"like a Picasso"/"Como un Picasso"

Damn, Jairo's window changes colours every day, it seems to be alive, or that some madman during the moonless nights, painted it and gave it shapes. Sometimes it's Van Gogh, but today it's a "Picasso" or at least that's what I think, although those spirals of clouds on the blue panes have something of "The starry night" of the genius without his ear.

T08.jpg
"Cut"/"Recorte"

I want to justify this unnecessary click, I want to give form to the confused walls, I want to say that this is a confronted street and silences and minimalisms and other bullshit that is a fake... This is just a "cut" an unexpected reverse face of an image that shouldn't be but is.

T09.jpg
"The 12-65 school"/"La escuela del 12-65"

It was the 70's and the village was full of living haciendas, sugar cane, orange groves, cows, horses, pigs and other wonders... In 12-65 the girls from poor families now had a school for themselves. There they learned to type, to file, to read and write in English... And then they went to the capital to earn their living in a company, only to return to visit their families in the village on Friday afternoons, to come back on Sunday after Mass.

T10.jpg
"María"/"María"

Maria is no longer the nanny who used to look after my sister, Maria no longer comes to our house every day... Maria hasn't visited us for forty years, but since that day when she left us, we still look at her almost daily... Now you have your own children, your grandchildren and great-grandchildren.... Maria sings them the same songs with which she lulled my sister to sleep.

Thank you very much for your visit and appreciation!
