Hello, dear friends of this lovely community. How are you doing? I hope you're well. Today I'm feeling a bit down; however, I didnβt want to miss the chance to share with you this recipe I made on the 21st of this month.
Ironically, it had recently been my auntβs birthday, and I had asked her what her favorite flowers were. She told me sunflowers, so the idea had already been floating around in my head since then, just waiting to be brought to life. Eventually, the opportunity finally came, and thatβs why Iβm here.
In fact, I made several things to give as gifts that day, and Iβll be sharing them in different communities throughout this month.
Honestly, at first I had no idea what these cookies were going to look like. Usually, I just rely on scattered ideas that come to mind about how I could make what I need. Since I enjoy sculpting with modeling clay, I tend to draw on the knowledge I have from that to find a way to personalize the cookies in the way I envision.
Making these cookies was a bit of a challenge, but for me it was also quite therapeutic: cutting, shaping, using molds, and putting my creativity to the test.
I want to point out that there are steps in this recipe that I didnβt execute perfectly, but I was still able to resolve the messes I had made more easily than I expected. And since I still donβt know exactly what the correct way to do it would be, Iβm going to explain my processβmistakes and all.

In the large bowl weβve chosen, weβll crack the egg, add it in, then incorporate the sugar, followed by the vanilla and the oil.
Using an electric mixer, weβll begin to combine the ingredients until the mixture turns slightly pale. This will indicate that it has filled with oxygen and, as a result, has increased significantly in volume.
AΓ±adiremos la leche y seguiremos batiendo.
Weβll add the milk and continue mixing.
Then, gradually, weβll start adding the flour to our liquid mixture. Itβs important to keep mixing, but in this case, with the electric mixer turned off at first. Weβll turn it on once we see thereβs no risk of the flour flying everywhere like a cloud of dust.
There will come a point when we can no longer use the electric mixer and will need to knead the dough by hand.
Now weβll divide the dough into two portions.
Next, weβll knead the other portion of dough until itβs smooth. Weβll place a few drops of yellow food coloring into a small container and add a bit of the orange powdered coloring we have. Weβll dissolve it, add it to the dough, and continue kneading until itβs fully tintedβand our hands look like a Simpson character.
To other of them, weβll add the cocoa powder along with a generous amount of black food coloring, and knead until both powders are fully integrated into the dough.
Weβll sprinkle a bit of flour on the countertop, place the dough on it, and flatten it with a rolling pin. I recommend aiming for about 4 millimeters of thicknessβthis way, the cookies wonβt be too fragile and will look better once they expand. Now, weβll cut the petal base using a flower-shaped cookie cutter.
Weβll place them on the tray we previously greased with oil, and using our thumb or a round object, weβll gently press the center of each flower.
With the help of a knife, weβll cut indentations at the base to create the petals. Weβll try to make them as uniform as possible.
Weβll use the chocolate dough to make the central button. Roll it out on the table with the rolling pin, cut small circles, and place them in the center of each flower, pressing them down.
In my case, using the back of the cutter (which used to be a mini stationery stamp), I decided to make a mark in the center of the sunflower. That, without a doubt, gave it a great touchβit made it look much better.
But thatβs not all (I sounded like a cable TV promoter), because with the shape that resulted, I took advantage of the raised edges to enhance the texture of the button. Using small scissors (very clean ones), weβll cut the edge sections as if we were making mini petals.
Theyβll look like this, and weβll place them in the oven at 180Β°C (356Β°F) for approximately 6 minutes. Either way, I suggest keeping a close eye on them because these cookies bake in a flash.
AcΓ‘ horneΓ© una segunda ronda.
Here, I baked a second batch.
Weβll take them out of the oven once we see theyβve stopped rising, smell like cookies, and start to look slightly darker around the edges. When removing them, itβs important to make sure theyβre warmβnot too cold, but not too hot either. If you let them cool completely, itβll be very difficult to remove them from the tray, and if theyβre too hot, theyβll likely fall apart when you try to lift them because theyβre still too soft.
Y esto serΓa todo por la receta de hoy. ‘¿Verdad que quedaron hermosas?! π»
And thatβs all for todayβs recipe. Arenβt they absolutely beautiful?! π»
I think making this kind of treat is always perfect for gifting or sharing during special occasions with lovely themes. I shared them with several people, gave some to my partner, and even brought them to a picnic I had yesterday β¨. I still have some chocolate dough left, so Iβll soon come up with something else to make.
