Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Zyriel.

Featured cards

Zyriel is a life and dark splinter that costs 7 mana. It starts with weapons training and life leeech). It learns divine shieeld at level 2, and rust at level 4. This is a great card, but I wasn't able to use it after it was phased out of modern.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Outsider. This means that no legendary cards can be used, and only melee monsters can be used. There are also 45 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for water, earth, death, and dragon.

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Thalgrimore for the -1 health. My tank is Avina of the Wolf with flank. My backup tank is Mantaroth with shield and armored strike. Following that is Olivia of the Brook with opportunity and mimic. Then I have some support monsters with Zyriel in the middle to give it ranged damage.

Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match is my win because I have more damage.

Round 4

round 4.png
A few rounds later, my opponent is down to 2 monsters while I have 5 of mine left. This is my win because I have more monsters.

I won the match later that round.

Conclusion

The battle did go exactly as planned. Zyriel and its weapon training were quite nice because it added quite a bit of damage. At the same time, I think that my lineup was just better with all that extra damage I had. Armored Strike was even more powerful due to that protect. It's too bad that Olivia wasn't as useful as I thought it would be because there weren't any abilities to copy.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
