Gardening is always a part of my life. It is something I have learned when I was young and it is something that I need and I love to do these days. Gardening is so beneficial not only for our health but also for the financial aspects.
When you have a vegetable garden, you can pick some vegetables from your garden and you can bring directly in your kitchen. You will really know its safe, its clean and fresh when cook.
This time allow me to share an update with our very small garden.
In most houses you can find hanging plants but it's not a hanging vegetables but hanging flowers.
In our little house, you can see hanging vegetables right in the window. That's how they look when you were inside our small house. I am happy having them as they also serve as curtain - a natural curtain for our window.
This is how it looks like from outside. People who are passing by here will always appreciate it and they usually say "oh, how did you plant that eggplant upside down?"
You might ask too so here's the steps how we do it. (I'm sorry, I don't have the pictures.)
When you have some seedlings of eggplant, transfer them in the recycled water bottle.
Let it stay there until they grow a little bit.
When the roots is stable and the plant is really alive, you can now put some tie and hang it upside down.
Open the bottom of the recycled water bottle which is on top now so you can water it through that opening.
We were able to plant eggplant and tomatoes that way. But tomatoes already died after giving us one season of fruits.
Here's our hanging eggplant. They look so healthy and already bears flowers.
We also planted sweet potato leaves in the hanging pot. They are safe from dogs who are peeing everywhere, lol. That's an advantage, right?
We also have malabar spinach or indian spinach (which we Filipinos usually call it alugbati). This is one of my favorite vegetable leaves aside from moringa leaves.
Last time I cooked some vegetables, I picked some leaves of sweet potato leaves and malabar spinach. Oh, I have them so fresh from our hanging garden.
We have this eggplant in the recycled water container. We were so happy seeing them so healthy and now bears not just flowers but fruits.
We also have this ladies finger (okra in our own dialect). We planted many seeds but unfortunately only one grows. But then we are grateful for this one and look, it will give fruits soon.
Our pechay looks so healthy too and some are ready for harvest.
Last time we uprooted some and we cook it with fish. We don't need to buy pechay in the market because we have them just in front of our small house.
Since they are so healthy, snail and I don't know how to call this little creature are so diligent in visiting our garden at night and they are eating the leaves of our plants. Early in the morning we can find many holes in the leaves.
We also have some raddish. Can you find the raddish growing? Soon they can be harvested.
I also throw tomato seeds in this area and here they are now ready for replanting.
We also have spring onions that helps us survived for almost or I think more than a month without onions. The last time I bought onion is when it is 330.00/kg. It even reached to 550.00/kg until 750/kg and I never bothered myself to buy any, lol. So, during this time, spring onions help us survived. We used this leaves instead of onions.
I take out the spring onions beside our house and transferred them in front of our house so they can have a sunlight. They look unhealthy without the sun. Hopefully they will recover and be healthy soon.
That's me doing some weeding early in the morning. Gardening and at the same time enjoying the free vitamin D brought by the sunshine.
All photos are mine.
Gardening is always fun. It also gives you a sense of satisfaction seeing the plants growing and above all when they bear fruits.
