So I'm new to having a teen. My daughter just turned 13 in July. I have always been a strict mom when it comes to rules and manners and overall respect for not just adults but EVERYONE you come in contact with. If someone isn't the same towards you always stick up for yourself but not in an aggressive manner. BUT I've also always taught her if someone attacks her physically, boy or girl to bring them to the ground and show them the put their hands on the wrong girl. Now I've come across ppl who agree with me and those who think I'm a horrible parent for not only telling her to do so but teaching her how and that she is capable of defending herself against anyone. She has the skills. But thankfully has never had to use them until this week.
If you are in public. Let's say at an indoor playground with ball bits(nasty, my kids aren't allowed in them, Google it, gross) anyways, bouncy houses, huge slides, so much. But if you are there and are a good parent you watch your damn kids. Especially the young ones. Now my problem lies with two families we encountered. Long story short there was this boy, 15 I found out when he mother came looking for me. The other had a little girl I'm guessing about 7. This boy was bouncing and letting his body go wherever and he was a heavy kid. And wasn't supposed to be in this section as it was for smaller younger kids. They had sections for age brackets. So my daughter was watching the kids with me we had 3 little ones who live with us currently. And this poor little girl got kicked by this boy in the face. Blood everywhere she had a bloody nose. We cleaned her up and console her still no parents around. I told her to go find her mom. She says thank you I'm fine now and just keeps on playing. I asked the boy to leave and his response, I don't have to listen to you. Now I'm uncomfortable and have 3 kids in there I'm responsible for that aren't mine. So I send my daughter in to be standing between the boy and our girls. He laughs jumps as hard as he can and puts his legs up and purposely double kicks my kid in the back. It hurt you could see it hurt. He had 60lbs on her easily. So I'm already taking my shoes off ready to try and navigate this huge castle. And my daughter tells me it's ok and goes over and punches this kid twice her size in the gut. He instantly cries and runs to his mom who was still no where to be found. Now I was there so she was wrong because we also have a rule if I'm there I'll handle it with the parents. She instantly says I know I'm in trouble it's ok. So his mother comes over screaming until she sees he has hurt two little girls then she herself walked away extremely embarrassed. I took the little girl up front to the desk because we was leaving and I wasn't leaving her alone. This place is in a mall. The mother was off shopping. Security called the police.
If two families were just supervising their children all of this would have been avoided. Why do parents leave their children..what happened to rules and guidelines and over all making the right choice.
I was very proud of my girl. But I never said that and she still had a consequence for acting on emotion and not thinking through the situation.
Watch your kids ppl and if they old enough to step on their own a bit then please for the rest of the world teach them correctly!!
I don't think many will see this how I do so I probably won't get many likes or comments. But this was a proud mama moment for me. I taught her well and have no regrets.
