Two months ago I reviewed a Thai place called Best Thai that was absolutely terrible.
Today I have to pleasure of reviewing a Thai place that is much better.
Royal Thai is absolutely amazing.
First of all this place is not convenient for me to get to.
It's in a place called Old Town which is sort of near Uptown by Southern Methodist University.
It's a pretty good area but most people around here drive terribly.
I had two people try to cut me off and at one point I had to slam on my breaks because the person in front of me slammed on their brakes.
That has nothing to do with the food though.
Let's go inside and see what it's like.
The atmosphere is very comfortable.
The tables are made of some kind of nice redwood.
There are many old style paintings on the wall and the whole feeling here is just really relaxed.
The staff is friendly and they absolutely understand everything on their menu.
I've eaten at a lot of Thai places and I have to tell you that for the most part you get a mixed bag.
It's always nice to eat at a place that offers not only good service but knowledgeable service and good food in a great atmosphere.
Let's get on to the food.
I ordered the Pad Bai Grapow.
The menu says:
Pad Bai Grapow
Your choice of beef, pork or chicken stir-fried with fresh basil, baby corn, mushrooms, bell peppers, fresh garlic & jalapeno peppers.
It was $7.50
I was told that it came with a nice brown sauce and that lunch items come with a free soup.
I was told that the soup is called chicken and rice soup.
I'm not sure if it has another name.
The broth was very spicy and tasted like chicken curry.
You can see that the soup basically consists of chicken, carrots, onions, and rice.
That description does not do it justice though because this soup is really good.
Let's check out the main meal.
This is Pad Bai Grapow.
When my server brought this plate of food out I was really amazed by how fantastic it smelled.
The colors on the plate really pop and the meat and vegetables both look really fresh.
Remember that this plate of food and the cup of soup together cost $7.50 for lunch.
I'm not sure what the brown sauce consisted of but it managed to be spicy, sweet, and absolutely flavorful.
The chicken was exactly how I would want it cooked and the vegetables were crispy and just amazing.
Remember that I had previously reviewed a place called Best Thai that I thought was absolutely terrible.
I thought it was really funny that when I walked out the door for Royal Thai I saw this sign.
Best Thai.
These people actually mean it though.
I would wager actual money that this is the best Thai food place in all of Texas.
Of course that kind of thing is subjective.
I can tell you right now though that the food here is fantastic.
It's kind of a hassle for me to get here but I will definitely be coming here more often.
Royal Thai has the best Thai food I've ever eaten.
