A week of fever kept Pablo lying in bed. The bite of the black goat was healing. His grandmother spent the day taking care of him, he did not have the strength to get up. Of what happened, he only remembered the snakes in the cave. Amador managed to convince the town doctor to go up the mountain to his house because the young man could not get out of bed. The antibiotics had no effect, on the contrary, he was getting worse every day.
-He is the only one who can save our Pablito- said Josefa to Amador.
-Ma, we had sworn that we would never look for him.
-There's no other way, mijo, it's either that or the boy dies. . . it's their fault . . . those malparías. . .
Amador left at dawn, he did not want to go to look for the help he needed, but there was no other option, he could not bear to see his son delirious with fever. They could barely give him water to keep him from dehydrating. The little money he had was spent to travel to the other nearby town. At mid-afternoon he returned accompanied by a man with dark skin, a very long beard and abundant gray hair. He was an older man, but his skin did not show any wrinkles. His name was Eusebio and although most people thought he was a witch, he was a Mohan. One of the last ones still alive.
Upon entering the house, he went straight to the room where Pablo was. He lit a cigarette and took out a bottle of aguardiente to calm the spirits. He could feel them as he entered. He felt the chill of the ancestral spirits reclaiming what belonged to them. He recited a prayer in a strange tongue and then spat the drink to the four corners of the earth. Eusebio made a small altar. Placing his hand on Pablo's body, he began his ritual. Amador and Josefa remained at a prudent distance -Ches, you who have the power to control time and have the power of forgiveness and punishment, cover this person with your power and show it to me, tell me what ails him and heal him, Chamukuteeee- recited the Mohán. His eyes turned white. His body trembled -Oh immortal god, forgive me! I did not know your intentions, take his mortal body, it belongs to you, forgive me! forgive me! forgive me!- exclaimed the Mohan, taking out a bottle with a concoction, he gave it to Pablo to drink. He gathered all his things and as he left the room, wrinkles appeared on his face. He grew old all of a sudden. He left without saying goodbye. Amador watched him from the doorway until he lost sight of him.
Within half an hour Pablo was recovered. His grandmother hugged and kissed him - I thought you would leave us, mijo - said his old dear - I promised you that I would never leave you and I will keep it - Pablo answered. Amador set the table and served him a hot chicken soup. The young man seemed full of energy, something different. No one asked him what had happened to him the day before his birthday. When he arrived bloodied and feverish. Like everything in that house, it would be another secret, something else that would never be talked about.
-Someone asked about you in town- said Amador.
-For me? - the young man was totally surprised.
-It was a young woman, recently moved from the capital, they told me at the supermarket that she was looking for you.
Pablo felt an immense joy. It was the girl he had brought home with him. But his joy faded quickly, he thought she was probably looking for him to make fun of him as well. He remembered the young men who called him cojecabra in front of her, he punched the table hard and got up -What happened mijo? - his grandmother asked. Pablo felt a pain in his stomach. It was so intense that he fell to the ground, his grandmother went to grab him, but Amador stopped her when she heard the noise the goats were making. They began to bleat.
Pablo's body was twisting, his bones were breaking. His grandmother and his father just watched in complete horror the transformation that was happening in front of their eyes. The young man's mouth was getting bigger and bigger, letting out a scream of pain. A sort of muzzle was sprouting and fangs were coming out. Josefa made the sign of the cross and Amador was paralyzed. They watched Pablo turn into something half human and half creepy creature.
Pablo looked at them, let out a moan and looked at himself in a small mirror hanging in the living room. He ran out of the house and realized that he was running on all fours, his mind was assimilating the transformation. He felt full of energy. With strength and power. He was running at great speed. He stopped and stood up, one part was still human and another part was a monster.
He ran to the top of the mountain, where the cave was. His refuge. The place where he enjoyed his time with the goats. In that instant he felt free. With strength. With power. He felt very good and he also felt hungry. Very hungry. He could smell and hear things happening far away. The smell of the black goat reached him, he turned towards the cave, that's where it came from, he needed to calm his hunger, he let out a cry never heard before by mortals and headed straight for the cave.
A kilometer from there, El Mohán was still on his way to his village. He heard a noise coming from the mountains. He stopped for a moment and continued walking quietly. He came to a small adobe house at the end of the road, the door opened. The old woman with yellowish teeth greeted him.
- It's done now. Don't come looking for me again. I serve only him now.

Comenzaron a balar.
Corría a gran velocidad.
