This time of year my favorite park is festooned with wildflowers of many kinds, shapes and colors. I’ll share a few photos from my recent walk there. But first a shout-out to tattoodjay@tattoodjay, host of Wednesday Walk, and elizacheng@elizacheng, host of Make Me Smile. These two initiatives are a collaboration, which makes them double the fun.

Okay here are some of my wildflower pictures.

They mostly aren’t brilliant in color. In fact their colors are soft and subtle. But there’s something about looking across the fields and marshes ad seeing the vast, unspoiled meadows and prairie grasses that is candy to my eyes and fuel for my soul.

The marsh, too, is colorful in its own way. Vines play along the edges of the marsh grass. Cattails are beginning to go to seed.

Have you ever seen this happen? It takes a few weeks for them to convert from the deep reddish-brown color of fully formed cattails to fuzzy white. It is just starting.

In addition to wildflowers and cattails, I always take a few pictures of broad expanses. I think it’s important for anyone other than those who actually live in the wild to have a way to get to a place with a view, unobstructed — whether it is of mountains, a lake, fields, the ocean, or a golf course.
