‘Son, wake up, it's getting late for school.’
‘I'm coming mum, I won't be late. I LOVE YOU!’
I looked around in bewilderment. The room was empty. I had no children.
‘Sonooo, why are you late? Come down quickly or we won't make it!’
A stony silence answered me. I sat up suddenly, in a cold sweat.
I had just had a disturbing dream.
Then I remembered my appointment that afternoon to have an abortion.
Shivering, I dialed the clinic's number with trembling hands.
‘I'll cancel my appointment. I've changed my mind.’
I hung up, stroking my belly. Was it a sign? The voice of my unborn child begging me not to end its life?
Perhaps I would never know, but the dream experience had given me pause.
