These days I have become aware of the consumerism that abounds in networks. Personally, I like to buy things, but I have to admit that what I see on the internet every day is not normal. It's not normal for people to base their content on buying things they (probably) don't need every day, under the premise that “it's never enough”, and that's somehow like panicking. I wonder... Why are so many people panicked to say "put", "I put", "I put"?
Now everything is "I place", "place". How crazy, it's funny but as time goes by I see it more often, on social networks that lately are becoming a very... very hostile. Someone tells you that you did an excellent job and you immediately respond that it wasn't a big deal either. But it is enough for one person to point out an error for you to spend hours thinking about it in your head.
Why does what you do well seem so easy to forget and what you do badly becomes a proof of who you are? Think about it... catastrophic thoughts bombard us and hurt us.
There are people who have been used to demanding themselves for so long that they no longer even recognize when they are being unfair to themselves. In times where everything seems to be resolved with manifestation we find ourselves with a wall... Even if you don't like to think about this, it keeps happening.
There are a couple of reasons why these thoughts happen that I want to share with you... First of all, because our brain processes uncertainty badly and chooses even a terrible scenario rather than staying without knowing what is going to happen. Just look at how we react when someone tells us “we need to talk”, we immediately imagine something terrible rather than holding the question unanswered.
The second reason is that many times these thoughts serve as a protection to avoid dealing with traumatic memories, unconscious desires, or issues that generate conflict... and how does this happen? When we think about this catastrophic scenario, at least we are not dealing with what causes us pain. But does this solve anything? Certainly not, because the discomfort we experience also affects us. Holding on to what hurts us tells us about that mechanism in which pain plays a role.
Now... Beyond its causes (there may be other additional reasons), I can assure you that our catastrophic thoughts are not prophecies or signs of something terrible that is coming, they are just thoughts, constructions of our mind to deal with how complex life is. Remembering this can help to manage it, when we feel that our mind overwhelms us.
We have to be very careful with what we choose to share, sometimes from innocence or naivety, we expose ourselves to criticism, comments or excessive pointing that do more harm than some people think.
