Happy Sunday, my dear Hivers! On Sundays, my family and I are usually a couch potato because we prefer to stay at home and unwind. But for today, we decided to go on a long road trip to Simala Shrine in Sibonga, Cebu, a 4 hr trip from the City.
This shrine is both a tourist spot and a land for miracles. Whether you're a tourist or a worshiper, there's no doubt that this shrine is considered as one of the 'must-see-places' in Cebu. As a Catholic, we know that Mama Mary is the virgin mother of Jesus Christ. This place is specifically dedicated just for the blessed mother.
The entrance of this multiple hectar property is a long staircase that can be seen as a bridge to the altars and the insides of the church.
This European design staircase is similar to the Chain Bridge in Hungary.
Before climbing the long staircase, visitors can opt to watch this water fountain that have angel statues. Some people throw coins in the water mistaken it as a wishing well.
I didn't take much photos inside the church to respect the sanctuary of the Saints. But what caught my eyes are these very touching testimonies from Simala devotees who have received their answered prayers. Most of their prayer requests tackles the topic of health, board exam, and simply achieving their dreams. These people have witnessed the miracles from the blessed mother.
Outside the museum is the candle lighting area. These candles used to have different meaning by color. But now, as the staff said, they are of equal meaning.
It was a long roadtrip going to the shrine but the view was worth it, truly breath taking. Before coming to this place, we stopped by to order their popular lechon sa Carcar City for lunch.
This short but breath taking adventure is one for the books!
