A Quiet Moment Out and About
I did a few random quick sketch of the people passing by earlier today I really wanted to try this but drawing outside trying to capture subject is a little difficult than I imagined. It’s the simplest everyday figures that are the most fun to sketch. Fleeting moments, no pressure, I just opened up the app and started building this sketch from scratch—an older fellow with white hair, holding a small grocery list close to his chest while carrying a blue umbrella tucked by his side.
It was a little challenging to capture people who are passing by about filling the canvas. I wanted to contrast the bright green shirt and warm brown pants against a solid lavender background, keeping that flat aesthetic while letting the pose tell its own quiet story. You just keep layering the forms—from his serious expression to the curve of the umbrella handle—stroke by stroke until the whole mood settles into place.
It’s such a satisfying process when a simple idea in your head turns into a full character study on the screen.
