When I came back from the United Kingdom after working there for a few years, I bumped into an old school friend, who must've been one of the greatest sportsmen I ever met. To put it in perspective, during the 12 years we were at school, he earned provincial colors 14 times in 5 Sporting disciplines. For me it was a no-brainer that he would've received his national colors in one of the sporting disciplines, but this never happened. The sad thing is that it was not his fault. His only problem was that he lived in a small little town, and was never seen by the larger team scouts. Today he is actually Age group Champion for Shot Put, 4th place in the last World Championship for Decathlon, 6th in the World with Weight pentathlon, 5th in the world for Discuss.
I am a problem solver at heart and solved problems for many organisations using technology. I then decided to apply my trade to this specific problem:
I think we all understand that data is very important in today's world. The problem which I initially had, was to find a way to collect this data, and it is a massive amount of data we are talking about.
Data of every athlete, at every club or school, every sports result, every fitness stat, training stats, training information, dietary information. Well, basically anything sports related.
I have been looking into sports data for many years. I spoke to schools/ clubs around the world and spoke to thousands of athletes from various sporting disciplines. You will not believe how poor the sports information is managed all across the globe: Sports and Match statistics are either emailed or even worse, still faxed from the clubs and schools to the sporting bodies.
The sporting bodies are supposed to file this in databases, or even old filing cabinets. Well, in a lot of cases this does not happen, and this data disappears. Please try and find basic information like - How many international swimmers are there world-wide? Or what is the World Record for U 7 Girls running the 60 metres.
Our target audience is not the sports person that has made it. Our target audience is the younger generation, those still at school and practicing sport. These kids are well versed in social media technology and we are developing a new social media application which will allow them to enter their sporting information on a daily basis.
Don't get me wrong, we are not only looking for the young upcoming stars, we are looking for everyone that participates any sport to provide their information. Even those that will not become stars in the end.
Many households with kids at school has the same problem as me. Sports goes through different seasons in the year. Every season I need to buy new sporting equipment for my kids, as next year they grow which means new clothes and in some cases theydecide to play different sports :)
We will build the technology for the online shops, but anyone in the community can decide to start a shop in their area, for their own profit.
We will have various revenue streams to ensure we can grow the network, but most importantly these revenue stream will be shared with the participants in the network.
In my opinion they would be interested, but at SportsPodium we will be different. We will not take all the advertising money like Google and Facebook, because we are on a Blockchain and therefor have the ability to distribute crypto tokens, from where we can enable smart contracts to share parts of revenue streams back to the wider community participants.
Just think if you have 6 years of information in your sporting CV, and you have the ability to share this information with a University or Club in another region or country?
