Every weekend starting Friday, you can rest assured there is a game on your TV screen. Let's say American Football. On Friday you have local game in high school. On Saturday, you have more games for College campus and televised for national viewing. On Sunday you have the professionals on TV for the world to see. Sport is really huge in America. it is so huge Canada has teams part of American sports. In Baseball and Basketball, there are Canadian teams.
Further away #NFL is playing games all over the world. Next Sunday there will be a game in Paris, France. This Sunday it was London. They did play in Brazil and Germany this year. I think it is a first for France. It will be between #steelers vs #Saints. I did not know #NFL has fans all over the globe. By the way #NFL is huge. I mean financially it is a juggernaut in revenue. Around $22+ billion for 17 games in the regular season plus playoffs afterwards. It is so big they can afford to play overseas and the game is still going strong. They play in Mexico too sometimes.
Apart from NFL, #Baseball is the summer past time. I rarely watch a baseball game. I feel like it is way too slow. Still it generates more than $12 billion annually. You probably heard of New York Yankees, etc.. Close to me I do have the #marlins. I do recall when they won in 1997 and 2003. Since then they are quiet. Now you probably heard of #Otani a Japanese player. For some reasons, Japanese has been playing baseball for a while. They are good at it. Dominicans play the sport well, not to forget Cubans.
#NBA is a little more loud but generated less than Baseball. Due to Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Steph Curry and many more. Basketball tends to be more global in my opinion. You have the sport in #olympics and widespread in Europe. Not to forget Asia, basketball is a sport everyone will know after #football. So far it generates around $11.6 billion annually. There are quite a few European players that play really good like Doncic and Giannis and Jovic. By the way there are two NIkola Jovic in the NBA. One plays for the Heat and the other for Denver. The surname for Jovic in Denver is the Joker. This guy is slow for basketball scheme but he won a championship with his style of play.
The next one on the ladder is #NHL. Hockey is a sport I want to follow but I never had the time to fully comprehend the game. It still generates around $7.5 billion annually. Hockey is a winter sport but it does not bother to see a Florida team won it back to back 2024 and 2025. The panthers did pull it off with grace. I think they could win it again if it was not injuries all over the team for this year.
#Golf is huge in its place. Every week there is tournament starting on Thursday all the way to Sunday. The #Tiger momentum has been the reason in my opinion #golf is so out in the world. Still many folks still watch. I do watch a lot of golf when I have the time. You can see the players use different strategies from Thursday to Saturday but play more careful on Sunday. One bad shot can cost you $100 grand easy. The cool part is if you don't get cut and you are playing Sunday, you will not go home empty hand. It generates near $2.5 billion annually. Do you remember about LIIV Golf?
Surprisingly #Football is down the line but slowly moving up the ladder. It generates around $2.2 billion annually. I hope Messi has something to do with it. It has been a while #MLS is trying really hard to put up a show. I watch quite a few games but the beauty is not there yet compare to UEFA champions League games. Messi is a show just by himself. It is more fun watching la Liga or EPL. I even watch Mexican Football League. Let's hope more players come over and boost MLS in the future.
From there we have a bunch of sports that I barely watch. Indy car racing is my preferred than #Nascar. Tennis is in the list for me. Wrestling and mixed martial Arts are the on the ladder for around $3 billion when you count for WWE and UFC. #Picketball is a sport but I have no clue about it. Cricket is huge in Asia but I don't see it in the States on TV. Rugby is nowhere on TV in the US.
HOW MUCH TOTAL IN REVENUE
American sports and recreation industry generated around $661 billion in annual revenue. This number is from last year. It is like $1.81 billion per day. This is astronomical when you know America is only 4% of the world population. If you compare it to the world every 1 dollar of 3 dollar from sports came from the US sports. The rest of the world generated $1.209 billion from all kind of sports. it is a share of 64.7% and the US occupies 35.3%. This is why I see NFL, basketball are trying to go global so they can grab more market share.
It is easy when you turn on your TV and they are talking about a sporting event. Or there will be one playing live during the day. The world Cup was a big deal here even though we are not a nation of #Football. Americans in general love #SPORTS. Just for that, it makes sports a major part of the American economy, far beyond the games we watch on TV.
Sport is a pastime for the people. While it is really fundamental in everyday life, it is an opportunity for many to become rich as a player and owner. It is part the economy to a point where the NBA did not stop the season during the covid time. Lakers won in the bubble in Orlando. Folks in the US take their sports seriously.
I know a guy, he is a fan of the #dolphins. For some reason, he still wearing their hat nonstop even though #Dolphins has been on the losing skid for some time. This is truly a fan. He was born a dolphin, I guess he will pass away a dolphin. That is what I call true dedication. Personally #American Football is a passion for me. I like #football as well but American Football is a sport of accuracy, strength and game plan. Star power cannot win only on Sunday, you need to have all ducks aligned and play your A game. That is why I love the sports. What is your favorite sport from your neck of the hood?
I know many will say #football.
