Hi Friends..
Rasulullah eat with Ruthab (Soft Dates) before praying. If nothing Ruthab, then Prophet breaks with Tamr (Dried Dates), then if nothing dried dates He takes a glass mineral water.
The question is whether the same dates as sweet foods with other sweet foods? Pramono, a nutritionist from Banjarmasin insists this is not the same.
Dates, is complex carbohydrates. Instead, the sugar found in sweet foods or sweet drinks that we usually consume as food to break fast, that is simple carbohydrates.
"The general opinion of breaking fast should eat and drink sweet foods, as if it is 'Sunnah'. Well, not exactly. In fact, breaking fast with sweet foods filled with sugar (simple carbohydrates) actually damage our healthy."
When fasting, our blood sugar levels drop. Well, if we eat sweets, blood sugar levels will spike, immediately. Very unhealthy.
Dates, as exemplified by the Prophet, is complex carbohydrates, not sugar (simple carbohydrates). Complex carbohydrates, to become glycogen, require a process. If complex carbohydrates like original dates, slowly rise.
