Family traditions are something that last through the generations, from time to time they are modified and new events are applied to them, perhaps a special vase, tablecloths or napkins, traditions of family lunches every Sunday, those where grandma prepares her master dish and to culminate the delight comes with the long awaited dessert, that would be a common and ordinary tradition, one that you could have, yes you the same one who is reading now, let me tell you that if curiosity is consuming you, you will continue reading until the end.
My grandmother is a sweet lady of eighty-five years old, she looks quite jovial for her age and is quite a whimsical lady, although her hair is already gray she uses a special dye which leaves her hair as if they were silver threads, her skin is very soft and delicate and she uses all the ointment she knows to hide the wrinkles on her face.
Since I can remember we have always had the same tradition, one that I did not understand very well, of course before I was a child, one who only thought of playing with the many threads of my grandmother's basket, but now I had understanding and as she says I am a lady of eternal fifteen years.
The preparations for our special Sunday dinner always take at least six months, if there is something we excel in, it is the preparations, we are meticulous and delicate as we seek perfection and thus be able to frame each celebration with pride and honor.
On this occasion I felt something special since I would have an important role, I had been the chosen one to choose the menu that my grandmother would obviously prepare, I would be her assistant and thus I would learn the culinary art of my family, one that no chef knows and is sacredly kept from generation to generation.
I began my preparation several months ago, but not before stopping to think about the best meat, it is always important that it is not too fibrous, fatty or tough, this is the key point in all this, a difficult test that I would certainly carry out with pride and excitement.
I was immersed in my thoughts so that everything would be fine when I met him, there he was with his beautiful curly hair, his brown eyes through his glasses crossed glances at the same time with my eyes, an eminent greeting happened and we started to talk about trivial things and many other deep things, slowly we started to become good friends and then a little more, The boy I liked was orphaned and abandoned by his father, he lived with an uncle who did not give him the love he needed, this situation had made him a little weak and his extra kilos were the reason for constant teasing, that did not matter to me because I saw something in him that no one else saw.
Months went by and I felt very comfortable by his side, sometimes I forgot the family reunion, the laughter was constant and I felt his love at every moment, a relationship that was nurtured based on understanding, we had something in common, I was an orphan of a father but my mother always took care of me with great love and made sure I never felt the lack of a father.
The day before the Sunday meeting I invited my boyfriend home, mom was in the kitchen and we were in my room, the poor guy was a little nervous since it was the first time he was in my room, he observed every corner trying to record every detail, I hugged him from behind and gave him a kiss on the neck, he got nervous, I felt his trembling and to calm him down I hugged him even more, I wanted him to feel the protection of a mother.
I stopped hugging him and with one hand I played with his curls, while I held the knife I had under the blanket of my bed, -do you love me?- I asked him and with a nervous voice he answered me yes, I raised the knife and I pierced his heart through his back, a technique I had seen a thousand times, - "it is like killing a pig"- I remembered the words of my grandmother, he twisted for a long time on the floor, I managed to put a jar on his side and thus receive the blood, it was an ingredient that I did not lose.
Meanwhile my mother sharpened the knives to begin the task of cutting the meat, she had chosen the victim very well, big, tender, we would all get to eat piece by piece, after all my tradition is to be a cannibal and every year a woman of the family chooses the victim, that way we pay homage to the grandmother, because if we don't do it and we keep the tradition the next one to become dinner could be one of us.
