Steemhop is one of those games that looks simple but will have you raging in 2 minutes flat. You load it up at http://steemhop.org and you鈥檙e controlling this little white chicken with a red comb, hopping across roads, train tracks, and water. The whole map is this bright desert vibe with orange ground, green trees, rocks, and cars everywhere. Purple cars, red cars, trains that come flying down the tracks, and logs floating on water. Your job is just to keep going forward and survive. The score goes up every time you move a lane and there鈥檚 a timer at the top right counting down. You also see "TOP 52" in the corner which is the leaderboard so you know people are out here grinding for Steem rewards. It鈥檚 addictive because one wrong hop and you鈥檙e done.
The gameplay is pure chaos and timing. You start and it鈥檚 easy, just dodge a car or two, hop over the train tracks when there鈥檚 no train coming. But then it gets crazy. The cars start moving faster, the trains come more often, and then you hit the water levels with logs that you have to jump on before they move away. I got up to 42 in one run and I was so proud of myself because getting past 30 is already hard. You have to be patient and not panic. If you spam jump you鈥檒l die to a car you didn鈥檛 see. The best runs are when you get in a rhythm. Hop, wait, hop, wait, collect a coin if you see one, and keep pushing. When you die the screen goes to the big orange "STEEM HOP" logo and you just tap play again immediately because you know you can do better.
What makes steemhop hit different is that it鈥檚 not just a casual game. People play it for the season and the leaderboard. That "TOP 52" thing means you鈥檙e competing against everyone else trying to get a high score. I鈥檝e seen people hit 70, 80, even 100+. My best is 43 but I鈥檓 still grinding. Every run feels different because the cars and trains spawn randomly. Sometimes you get lucky and the road is clear, sometimes you get three cars back to back and a train right after. You die a lot. You鈥檒l get to 38, feel good, then get hit by a purple car and it鈥檚 back to zero. But you can鈥檛 stop because "just one more run" turns into 20 runs. My thumb hurts and my eyes are tired but I keep going because that high score feels so good when you finally get it.
At the end of the day steemhop is that game you tell yourself you鈥檒l play for 5 minutes and then it鈥檚 been an hour. The graphics are clean, the controls are just tap to hop, but the difficulty ramps up so fast. Desert, roads, tracks, water, back to roads. It never stops. You鈥檙e always looking ahead, trying to predict where the next car or train is coming from. I鈥檝e died to the dumbest stuff like jumping too early onto a log or not waiting for the crossing barrier. But when you finally get a good run and see your score climbing past 40, 41, 42, it feels worth it. I鈥檓 going to keep playing and try to crack top 20 next season. For now I鈥檓 just trying to beat my 43. One more run 鉂わ笍
