Saludos.
Greetings. The friend @emiliorios in his column "Seventh Day" leaves us an invitation to share our experience with the use of medicinal plants. Let me tell you...
Since my childhood I have had contact with medicinal plants. My mother tried to alleviate our ailments with natural products; Sabila, malojillo, bee honey could not be missing in our pantry. If there was a need to consult a doctor, she would do so, and she had no problem in using medicines from the pharmacy, but she always relied on some natural product.
So I grew up with that confidence and faith in natural products and throughout my life I have turned to them, I also tried to make my children aware of the benefits of this type of therapy. When things do not work I turn to chemical formulas, I am not rigid with this, at the end of the day the idea is to use what can make us feel good.
Among the medicinal plants that I use the most are the following:
Star anise. This is a spice that I use regularly, it is a must in my house. Since I was young I have had a delicate stomach, some foods do not agree with me. When I feel very full, gassy or sick to my stomach, I always turn to an infusion of star anise. It is amazing how quickly I feel relief after drinking one or two small cups of my anise infusion, I drink it without sweetening it with anything.
The cambur stem. About thirty years ago I met a naturopathic doctor here in Maracay, who introduced me to the benefits of the heart of the cambur bush. He used it as a detoxifier in his treatment schemes and combined it with other medicinal plants. In my house I always try to have several cambur bushes and occasionally I cut some young ones to drink for some days a juice of that heart of the cambur, I do it with small pieces, well cleaned of any rest of shell and I combine them with some pieces of carrot.
The Oregano Orejón. This plant grows very well in my yard, requires almost no care, is very hardy and has a pleasant smell. It is another one that I use to relieve stomach problems, it has anti-inflammatory properties. Several friends of mine also use it to alleviate urine flow, but I can't confirm anything about that. I do recommend it for stomach problems. It is very easy to prepare as an infusion, just a few leaves are enough to have a very pleasant tasting infusion.
The mango bud. In my area the mango is very popular, in each yard there can be several bushes. The tender leaves, called buds, are used as a potent anti-inflammatory, they are widely used in cases of bumps, sprains, inflammation of the gums and even fractures.
Recently my mother-in-law had an ankle fracture, because of her age, more than eighty-five years old, and her chronic diabetes and hypertension, the orthopedic doctor was very conservative and did not consider it prudent to perform any surgical intervention, he thought it was too risky. His foot was immobilized with a removable splint, in the hope that the fracture would heal and he would regain function.
Several times a day my mother-in-law applied a poultice made with boiled mango leaves, and she spent hours with it on her foot. Fortunately after a month the fracture healed and she was able to walk again without pain.
There are many other plants that my family and friends use, but these are the most used in my family environment.
I think it is necessary to remember the advice that our friend Emilio gives us in his publication, we must be prudent in the use of these medicinal plants, we must take into account that each human being is different and it may happen that what is good for one may not be good for another.
Thank you for your time.
