TITULO INGLES.jpg

From the moment we are born, a countdown begins in which our time is counted down with no possibility of return.

It may be that the above expression is too forceful and even contains a certain pessimistic tone. However, I am convinced that there is room for solemnity in our reflections on time.

It is true that the appreciation of time can be completely subjective. We become aware of this in the performance of certain activities; if we find them pleasurable, time flies by; if they are not to our liking, we get the impression that time slows down and never seems to pass.

But beyond these subjective impressions, which no one denies, there is an unquestionable reality, we are no longer the same baby as the day we were born, our body has changed, the effect of the passage of time can be easily noticed in these bodily changes. This observation should be enough to make us realize that time is running out and that it is important to make some decisions.

imagen2.jpg

It is not easy to determine what is the best use of our limited time, for this there is no extensive formula for everyone.

We can say, for example, that the best thing to do is to use our time for something useful. And here we have a big problem, what would be really profitable... To produce money...? To entertain us...? To feed our spirit through meditation and contemplation...? All these things...? None of them...?

As we can see, it is not very easy to establish priorities when it comes to managing our time. It can help us to be clear about the purpose of our life. If we know where we want to get to, we focus there, we do not disperse ourselves and we try not to waste a single second in unnecessary distractions.

It is logical that our appreciation of time changes as we get older. When we were young we probably didn't even think about it, life seems long and infinite. At that age there is no remorse to spend the day lying on the couch watching TV.

But sometimes these attitudes change when youth begins to fade on the horizon and then we begin to give more importance to the use of time. Like everything else, this is not always the case and I know many people of middle age and older, who continue to spend their days lying on the couch as if nothing happened...

I am at a stage where I finally have some clear priorities, I try as much as possible to take advantage of every moment. My time distribution is more or less inflexible, almost always related to the same activities...

In my daily schedule I can't miss a few hours of reading, nor a few minutes dedicated to meditation and prayer, these activities are essential to nourish my spirit. Closely related to that is the writing of short texts like this one, which allows me to organize my ideas and keep my brain activity going, there are those who argue that writing helps to maintain cognitive abilities...

No less important is the time I spend exercising and cultivating relationships with my neighbors, friends and family. I make it a point to converse with them for even a few minutes, preferably face to face and if that is not possible through the use of the internet.

Sometimes some young people in my community approach me for advice and guidance. My insistence with them is that they try to find the purpose of their lives, something that I know from experience is not at all easy to determine.

But the sooner we can find that purpose the better chance we have of using our time properly. And that at the end of the road will give us a great peace because we will have the certainty that we have accomplished the task at hand...
