Saludos.
Greetings. The friend @mirianna in her publication for the
@holos-lotus community on the occasion of her birthday invites to comment on those details that brighten our existence. Let me tell you...
Some time ago I read somewhere that life is made of details. I don't know if such a sentence would come from the mind of a notable person or an anonymous being, the truth is that that would be the least important thing. The important thing to point out is that we all like those special moments, that are out of the ordinary, and that can be as simple as a smile, a hug, a gift, or any other manifestation capable of moving us and taking us to a state of joy and happiness.
In recent days my mother turned eighty-nine, a big number. Reaching that age in the condition she is in is quite an achievement, her mental lucidity is perfect and her body continues to function quite well. To celebrate this special date, the closest family went on the move, trying to do something that would be to her liking.
We all know that one of the things my mother likes is family reunions, meeting with those she hasn't seen for a long time. So my brother and a cousin arranged a meeting in La Guaira with a wing of the paternal family with whom she has had little contact for many years.
The meeting was not really a surprise, we had to find out if she was willing to participate, if she would feel comfortable. To be present meant for her a long trip from Barquisimeto, the city where she lives, to La Guaira. But from the beginning she was so enthusiastic about the idea that she called every day to find out how the preparations for the meeting were going.
By those coincidences of life, the dates coincided perfectly. Her birthday was on a Sunday, so the meeting in La Guaira was arranged for Saturday. My mother arrived on Friday in Maracay, where my brother and I live, rested a little and on Saturday she went to La Guaira.
That meeting had a deep impact on her, there was a generation that she had seen when they were children and that already had grandchildren. None of us imagined that she would feel so good sharing with unknown faces. But affection weaves bonds capable of far surpassing the barriers of time and space. My mother arrived radiant from that trip to La Guaira.
The next day, on Sunday, we decided to take her to lunch at a restaurant where they sing birthdays to the customers. When the waiter asked her for her ID to corroborate the date, she didn't suspect anything, she just asked and was satisfied with the explanation that it was a requirement for the bill. We finished our meal and she seemed very animated. Contrary to her habit she did not ask when we were going to leave.
A waiter discreetly left the silverware and dessert plates next to me and a few minutes later the extended version of the birthday song began to play.
All the waiters approached our table and began to sing the birthday song with us. They brought the cake and placed it in front of her. My mother couldn't believe it, she didn't expect it. She was so excited that she burst into tears. She unleashed such an emotional torrent that many people in the establishment got up from their tables and went to ours to congratulate her. I had never seen her so excited and happy. My mother is a woman who expresses her feelings very little...
From there we went to my house where my sisters-in-law were waiting for us. We shared another cake, sang the birthday again and the evening went on into the night. The next day I took her back to Barquisimeto. Before getting into the van she told me that she had spent a very happy few days.
The truth is that that weekend was very nourishing for all of us. There is nothing better than being contagious with joy, sharing with the ones you love, and surrendering to happiness.
Thank you for your time.
