Saludos a todos en la comunidad Hive DIY, les cuento que mi hijo asiste en una academia de ajedrez desde hace un año y es un apasionado del deporte ciencia como suelen llamarle, desde ese entonces observamos que uno de los recursos de enseñanza de usa el profesor es un ajedrez mural, este es muy útil para aprender mediante la repetición de ejércitos y tácticas, mi hijo actualmente está aprendiendo distintas variaciones de aperturas, gambitos, defensas y además ejercicios de juego final, por eso me pareció buena idea tener un ajedrez mural en casa, sin embargo, cuando vi los precios en Internet me quedé asombrada de que costarán entre 40 y 50 dólares, por lo que decidí hacer uno con algunos materiales reciclados y otros que tenía en casa, por acá les comparto como hacerlo ☺️

Greetings to everyone in the Hive DIY community, I tell you that my son has been attending a chess academy for a year and he is passionate about the science sport as they usually call it, since then we observed that one of the teaching resources that the teacher uses is a wall chess set, this is very useful to learn by repeating armies and tactics, my son is currently learning different variations of openings, gambits, defenses and also endgame exercises, that is why it seemed like a good idea to have a wall chess set at home, however, when I saw the prices on the Internet I was amazed that they would cost between 40 and 50 dollars, so I decided to make one with some recycled materials and others that I had at home, here I share with you how to do it ☺️

Materiales / Materials

• Un pendón viejo de 100×70cm (banner, lona, vinil o pvc)
• Dos palos de escobas que no usen, también pueden ser tubos reciclados.
• 1 lija número 100
• Un cordón de zapato
• Dos foami de tamaño doble carta
  (Azul claro y azul oscuro, se pueden pintar si no tienen)
• Papel y lápiz
• Regla
• Pintura al frio: negro
• Cúter
• Tijera
• Pincen plano y pincel delineador
• Silicón

• An old 100x70cm banner (banner, canvas, vinyl or PVC)
• Two unused broomsticks, they can also be recycled tubes.
• 1 sandpaper number 100
• A shoelace
• Two double-letter-sized foams (Light blue and dark blue, you can paint them if you don't have them)
• Paper and pencil
• Ruler
• Cold paint: black
• Cutter
• Scissors
• Flat brush and eyeliner brush
• Silicone glue

Proceso / Process

El primer paso es hacer la cuadrícula con la regla y el lápiz, como el pendón mide 70 cm de ancho, hice el tamaño de tablero de 60 x 60 cm, dejando 5 cm de borde lateral, la cantidad de filas es igual al número de columnas, es decir 8 por lo tanto cada cuadro mide 7,5 x 7,5 cm.

The first step is to make the grid with the ruler and pencil, as the banner measures 70 cm wide, I made the board size 60 x 60 cm, leaving 5 cm of side edge, the number of rows is equal to the number of columns, that is, 8 therefore each square measures 7.5 x 7.5 cm.

Con la pintura negra y el pincel delineador, pinté cada uno de los bordes de los cuadros negros, así como las líneas que delimitan el tablero, teniendo en cuenta el orden correcto el primer cuadro superior derecho debe ser blanco. Con el pincel plano rellené cada uno de los cuadros negros.

Using the black paint and the liner brush, I painted each of the edges of the black squares, as well as the lines that delimit the board, taking into account the correct order, the first upper right square should be white. With the flat brush I filled in each of the black squares.

Con el pincel delineador hice las letras y números correspondientes, las columnas se nombran alfabéticamente de izquierda a derecha de frente al jugador de piezas blancas, y las filas se numeran de forma ascendente desde el jugador de piezas blancas.

Using the liner brush I made the corresponding letters and numbers, the columns are named alphabetically from left to right facing the white piece player, and the rows are numbered ascending from the white piece player.

Con el lápiz dibujé las figuras sobre papel, las figuras miden 6 cm de ancho por 7,5 cm de largo, mientras que la pestaña inferior de cada pieza mide 4 cm de ancho por 5,5 cm de largo.

Corté los moldes con una tijera, copié el molde en el foami y corté las piezas, (16 peones, 4 torres, 4 caballos, 4 alfiles, dos damas y dos reyes) , como no tenía foami azul oscuro mi hijo me ayudó a pintar las piezas con pintura al frío.

With the pencil I drew the figures on paper, the figures measure 6 cm wide by 7.5 cm long, while the lower tab of each piece measures 4 cm wide by 5.5 cm long.

I cut the molds with scissors, copied the mold on the foam and cut the pieces, (16 pawns, 4 towers, 4 knights, 4 bishops, two queens and two kings), as I did not have dark blue foam my son helped me paint the pieces with cold paint.

Lijé los palos de escoba y los corté para que midieron 85 cm cada uno (el corte lo hizo mi mamá con una segueta). Doble los bordes del pendón y con silicón pegué las orillas dejando un espacio suficientemente grande como para introducir los palos sin problemas. Con el cordón de zapato hice el asa del ajedrez mural.

I sanded the broomsticks and cut them to 85 cm each (my mom did the cutting with a hacksaw). I folded the edges of the banner and glued the edges with silicone, leaving a space large enough to insert the sticks without any problems. I made the handle of the chess wall with the shoelace.

Con el cúter, corté una línea de 4 cm sobre el borde inferior de cada uno de los cuadros del tablero. De ese modo las piezas se pueden colocar en cada casilla, metiendo la pestaña de la pieza por el orificio lineal como si se tratara de un bolsillo.

Using the craft knife, I cut a 4cm line along the bottom edge of each of the squares on the board. This way, the pieces can be placed on each square, inserting the tab of the piece through the linear hole as if it were a pocket.

Resultado / Result

No puedo ni describir la felicidad de mi hijo al tener finalmente un ajedrez mural, de inmediato se puso a practicar jugadas. El resultado a mi me pareció muy bueno y espero le dure por mucho tiempo 🥰

I can’t even describe my son’s happiness at finally having a wall chess set, he immediately started practicing moves. The result seemed very good to me and I hope it lasts for a long time 🥰
