Greetings, dear community! As I mentioned in my previous post, I’ve already started getting ready for Christmas—specifically, creating new designs so I can open up my schedule for seasonal orders. I previously shared a mini version of the Virgin Mary and Baby Jesus, so to complete the Nativity scene, today I’m showing you how I made Saint Joseph. 😊 I hope you like it.
Proceso / Process
Just as I did for the Virgin, I used acrylic yarn and a 1.25mm crochet hook for this amigurumi, starting from the feet and working up to the head. I began with a 12-stitch oval, worked two rounds of height for the foot, and then a round with 4 decreases at the toe to achieve the leg width; I continued with 8 stitches and joined both legs with 2 chains. Unlike the Virgin, I added an extra round to the body—making it 4 rounds before joining the skirt—and also added a round to the skirt for a total of 10. I also increased the torso by one round, making it 4 rounds before attaching the arms; this way, Saint Joseph’s body ends up slightly taller than the Virgin’s.
For the head, I worked 6 increases per round until reaching 36 stitches, worked 10 rounds of single crochet, attached the eyes, stuffed it, and worked 6 decreases to close; I embroidered the details and made the ears by working a fan stitch on each side.
For Saint Joseph’s hair, I used a darker brown yarn than for the Virgin’s hair; in this case, I worked 6 single crochet stitches into a magic ring. I worked 6 increases over 5 rounds, followed by one more round with 2 increases to reach a total of 38 stitches—that is, two more than the width of the head. I created 5 strands by making 17 chains and working 17 slip stitches back along them, while for the back of the head, I repeated a pattern of 3 chains, skipping one stitch, and making 1 slip stitch.
