Standing at the doorway of what seemed to a gated territory, she wasn't sure what to expect. Holding tightly to her daddy's hand was all she could do. Both of them were drenched wet from the rain outdoors with no shelter for the last one hour. All they could do was walk as fast as possible, finding any possible shelter they could find. It was just trees and more trees as they walk and total pitch darkness. The small light from their torchlight wasn't much help either since it was weak from the undercharged battery.
Now, in front of them was what seemed to be a blessing from the great Almighty. They could see small bright lights at the end of the road leading to a home. A home with warm fire and perhaps some food and shelter for the homeless like them. Perhaps they would find some kind souls within the house to take them in. Whichever, it may be it was definitely better than staying outdoors in the rain.
Pushing the door open, they slowly walked towards the lights, and finally seeing a house with smoke coming out from the chimney. Knocking the doorknob every so slowly, she prayed that these kind souls will see just how desperate they were for shelter.
Please, oh please...
Take us in. We only need a place to hid from the rain. Some bread and water, if possible to warm their clothes before they head off onto the streets again.
Looking down at her boots, she was sure that she would be an embarrassment; dripping down water from all over like a wet carpet after a wash!
