I realize that I am a dragon and they are a human. But I will raise this infant like they were my own. I found them lost, filthy, starving, and alone. I'm not willing to risk them ending up that way again. -- Anon Guest
This is my child. I will guard hir and guide hir. I will protect hir and teach hir. Of course I committed to feeding hir and keeping hir clean. It is not easy, but it is my choice.
I did not think it was a choice at the time.
As a Dragon, it is important to stay away from large settlements. Unless that settlement actually welcomes you. It's a simple matter of survival, after all. Too many heroes want to gain their vainglory through slaying a dangerous and threatening dragons. I gained my mountain and kept it free of Dire Beasts. Little villages nearby paid me no mind. Not one of them confessed to leaving my little Xarxys in my hunting grounds.
I'm not angry. I'm just disappointed.
When I found hir, ze was all over with mud. Not a thread of clothing on hir. Ze was crying because ze couldn't reach the berries, and ze'd cut hirself on the thorns.
Someone likely expected me to eat hir. People often make mistakes like that with Dragons. We only chew in self-defence.
Intelligent creatures are not food.
My claws were immune to the bramble thorns, and I let my Xarxys feast. Ze was much more amenable to a bath once ze had a full stomach. Ze even sat still as I teased the tangles out of hir hair.
I had a beautiful, golden yellow Hellkin child. A brighter treasure had never sat in my hoard. So I became hir da. I hunted for hir. I changed myself into smaller forms to acquire the things that intelligent creatures need. Clothes. Furniture. Toys and books and pretty things.
I did my best to raise hir well. I'm moderately certain I have done a good job. Perhaps ze is a little more in love with fire than ze should be for a non-dragon. I met quite a lot of hir imagined fears with fire. It made hir laugh.
Now ze is grown, now that ze has skills and abilities you value. Now that you find hir as beautiful as I have always known hir... you come here seeking to rescue hir from both a Dragon and a curse.
You come in armour. You come with weapons. You come much, much older than hir and seek to own hir like all the other stolen treasures I see about you.
I will give you once chance.
Run.
Run now.
And don't you dare come back.
This is my child, and ze shall also have the freedom to choose where ze goes and who ze goes with.
