Hi everyone, I wanted to share that in my family, if anyone has truly excelled academically, it's undoubtedly my aunt. For as long as I can remember, I've seen her taking a variety of courses, both medical and computer-related, and participating in countless activities. It's safe to say she's always been studious and keeps her mind active. This year, after much effort, she finally completed one of the programs that I personally witnessed her working incredibly hard on. So, today I'll share a bit about my aunt's graduation ceremony, where she received her Master's degree in Citizen Security, specializing in Police work.
Hola a todos, les cuento que en mi familia, si alguien se ha destacado bastante a nivel académico, es sin duda mi tía. Pues desde que tengo memoria, siempre la he visto hacer diversos cursos variados, tanto médicos como informáticos, y estar en muchísimas actividades, por lo que sin duda se puede decir que siempre ha sido alguien estudioso y que mantiene su mente activa. La cosa es que este año, luego de mucho esfuerzo, por fin logró culminar uno de los estudios que personalmente pude ver que le costó mucho esfuerzo, por lo que, bueno, hoy les compartiré un poco de lo que fue este acto de grado de mi tía graduándose como "Magíster en Seguridad Ciudadana, Mención Policial".
To give some context, attending graduations was something we weren't very used to, since my aunt had only attended one graduation ceremony to date, and that was when she obtained her degree in social management. But for that one, only an uncle and my grandmother went, and the rest of us had to resort to the classic "find it through the secretary." So for my mom, my sister, and me (who had only attended a few because of my old job, and were the ones invited to accompany her), it was something that would be a new experience. I have to mention that it was something that came as a complete surprise to us, because in the days prior she had been reluctant to go, and we had been insisting, so after much persuasion, it could be said that it worked and she told us that she would go, and we started running around figuring out what we would wear and what time it would be, everything, and luckily the event was divided into two shifts, with the morning shift being for my doctoral students, master's students, technicians and firefighters, but quite early, because the time we had to be there was 6:30 am and, being the eager ones we are, we arrived early, along with other graduates who came from another municipality, waiting and feeling that we would open the place.
Para dar contexto, el tema de asistir a graduaciones era algo de lo que no estamos muy acostumbrados, pues mi tía hasta la fecha solo había asistido a un acto de grado y fue el de cuando obtuvo su licenciatura en gestión social, pero para ese solo fue un tío y mi abuela, y los demás aplicando el clásico buscar por secretaria, por lo que para mi mamá, mi hermana y yo (que solo habíamos asistido a algunas por tema de mi antiguo trabajo, las cuales éramos las invitadas para acompañar) era algo que sería una experiencia nueva. Tengo que hacer mención de que fue algo que nos cayó de sorpresa, pues días anteriores ella estaba reacia a ir, y nosotras le estábamos insistiendo, por lo que luego de mucho, podría decirse que hizo su efecto y nos avisó que sí iría, y nosotras nos pusimos a correr en ver qué nos pondríamos y a saber las horas, todo, que por suerte el evento se dividió en dos horarios, siendo por la ubicación para mis doctorandos, magísteres, técnicos y bomberos en la mañana, pero bastante mañana, pues la hora en la que se debía estar era a las 6:30 am y, como buenas ansiosas, llegamos desde antes, justo con otros graduandos que venían de otro municipio, esperando y sintiendo que abriríamos el lugar.
It was already 7:30 am, almost everyone was there and starting to line up to enter, and to our second surprise, we were among the first to go in. My aunt was in the first row to receive her degree, the first after the doctoral graduates. Following protocol, the guests and family went to the theater area to take their seats, and we went up there too, not too close, because we wanted to get a good view and be comfortable while recording. The ceremony was supposed to start at 8:30, but for some reason, the protocol staff were arguing at the head table, and everyone there was listening to the gossip. After a few minutes, the ceremony began, with the opening remarks and applause as the faculty, authorities, and finally the graduates were welcomed. I have to say, it was truly moving. My aunt was literally at the end of the first row, wearing her gown and some of her previous medals, since she didn't want to wear them all. The rest of the ceremony was quite quick, but emotional, and we had a wonderful time.
Ya eran las 7:30 am, ya estaban casi todos y comenzaban a hacer fila para el ingreso y, para segunda sorpresa, entramos entre los primeros, pues mi tía estaba en la primera fila para recibir título, siendo la primera luego de los doctorados. La cosa es que, siguiendo el protocolo, los invitados y familiares pasamos al área del teatro para ocupar las sillas y nosotras nos subimos, no muy cerca, pero esto era porque queríamos grabar bien y estar cómodas. La actividad debía iniciar a las 8:30, pero por alguna razón las chicas de protocolo estaban discutiendo en la mesa central y todos los que estábamos allí estábamos pendientes del chisme, pero luego de unos minutos comenzó el acto, dando apertura, y entre aplausos recibiendo al claustro, a las autoridades y finalmente a los graduandos, y la verdad debo decir que fue emocionante, pues literal mi tía estaba al final de la primera fila con su toga y parte de sus medallas anteriores puestas, ya que no quiso llevarlas todas. El acto luego de allí fue bastante raudo, pero emotivo y nos la pasamos bien lindo.
There were plenty of photos taken with classmates and teachers, as well as with my mom and sister. One of the funniest moments was when they threw the hat up in the air and my aunt got it tangled up and it fell off, which caused quite a few laughs. However, because of the time of day, it was quite hot, so we decided to go to my grandmother's house. When we got there, my aunt finally wore all her previous medals and gowns for a photo, as well as one of her certificate for her great achievement. My mom, being her older sister, also got her picture taken. So, basically, it was a really lovely day, and she's already thinking about her next race. Hubo bastantes fotos con compañeros y profesores, así como con mi mamá y mi hermana, y uno de los momentos divertidos fue cuando lanzaron el gorro hacia arriba y mi tía se enredó y se le cayó, por lo que las risas no faltaron. Sin embargo, por la hora, el calor era grande y nos dispusimos a ir a donde mi abuela y, llegando allá, mi tía usó ahora sí todas las medallas y togas anteriores para tomarle una foto, así como una del título por el gran logro, y mi mamá, siendo su hermana mayor, tampoco se salvó de también tener esa foto, por lo que básicamente fue un día muy lindo y ella ya incluso está pensando en la próxima carrera en comenzar, por lo que, bueno, sin más que decir y esperando que esta aventura fuera de su agrado, muchas gracias por leer.
