An adventure at sea with Ratbound Corsair for the girl who migrates to a world of adventure and magic.
English
Seated somewhere on the ship, the young woman’s mind was a whirlwind of right and wrong, of doubts and surprises. Anyone observing her would face two choices: question the events that had unfolded or burst into laughter. In her real life, she was terrified of waters of unknown depth; she used to try to explain to her brother why she always imagined extraordinary things—visions springing from the most unexpected places, provided there was water involved. Yet, this time was different; she remembered her fear, certainly, but she felt none of the crushing anxiety that usually gripped her. Instead, she felt a curiosity to draw closer and gaze into the blue depths, which seemed to hold undiscovered treasures.
At the same time, she couldn't help but smile whenever she saw the ship's captain. Although Ratbound Corsair was undeniably an imposing pirate—possessing the incredible strength he had demonstrated just hours earlier against those monsters—his appearance reminded her of her favorite movies. Those films featured pirates hunting for treasure and even crews made up of fish-men and other marine creatures; his hat and the skull on his belt looked exactly like something from those movies, evoking in her a mix of amusement and nostalgia.
She was always struck by the sheer variety of races in this new world, but on this occasion, she couldn't help but let her imagination wander to those fictional characters. She found herself wondering—somewhat foolishly—if that gaze, reminiscent of a mermaid's, might possess any of the powers often attributed to such beings by their admirers. It is hardly surprising that the fears from her other world had vanished; she was in a different body now, and with it came different experiences—and different fears. It was Vaelock who had been silently watching her, stifling a laugh and gazing at his surroundings with fascination.
That set her thinking; for a moment, she felt relieved to be free of those old fears—a feeling that vanished the instant she realized something. She looked at Vaelock and asked, "What do you mean, 'new fears'? ...What exactly am I supposed to be afraid of?" Vaelock gave her a mischievous look that sent a shiver down her spine, though the moment was interrupted by Jolius asking why her mind had wandered. Slipping back into adventurer mode, she asked exactly what awaited them; he replied that it was undoubtedly something new—even for him and the others—since they were heading into an area few explored and even fewer returned from with tales to tell, so they had to be prepared for anything.
Hello everyone. Here is my entry for the challenge proposed by @takeru255; this time, I’m drawing inspiration from
@henruc’s story, which I found thoroughly entertaining. Without further ado—and hoping you enjoy it—thank you for reading.
