The coin flips through the air, lands in the fountain, and manages to turn head over tails one... more... time, before it comes to rest gently on the blue tile amongst its penny and dime bretheren.
This is no penny, nickel, or dime. Not even the majestic half dollar. HECK, you might imagine this fountain is in Europe and we're seeing a whole 2 Euro coin, the king of coins, on the bottom, holding the hope of a little child...
No, this coin, tossed by a real wizard, is an ancient Gold Septuma of Rome. In its time, worth the labor of a hundred men for a hundred days. Worth a thousand barrels of olive oil. And today? If the right collector knew what it was, they would sell their souls for this coin.
Chadranka, the great wizard, gave it to a fountain at the corner of Los Feliz and Griffith Park. Not one of the storied fountains of rome itself, just an unassuming place, visited by folks without cars who have to make the long trek up the residential hill a little more amusing for themselves.
