Circle back to me on Sunday, the day we don’t have work, because I will never have an answer for you. Circles. When I first moved to L.A. I did the thing. Make a goal, write the steps to that goal, break them into smaller steps that are accomplishable.
The trouble is, the small steps are not necessarily leading to the larger goal.
Let’s say one of the goals is regular on a sitcom. Steps, in reverse order
Book multiple recurring roles on sitcoms
Book Guest/Co-Stars on Sitcoms
Audition for Guest roles on Sitcoms
Get auditions for guest roles on sitcoms…
And therein we have some trouble.
I can break some of this down into things I can do, like make sure my training is as good as it can be and do the work. I do that. But what do we do to get the auditions? Send postcards? Maybe. But for all the actors who say that I should, I hear from SOME CDs that it’s annoying and wasteful. So, I guess research which don’t mind… fine. Accomplishable, but will it help? Or will it, in fact be wasteful and annoying, because, for real- it’s not PRODUCTIVE. It doesn’t make the world a better place that I put my face on a postcard.
I guess what I decided to do ages ago, and am continuing to do is make stuff myself. It’s expensive/slow/requires the efforts of others, but I guess I do that. The thing is, nothing is a guarantee of getting to that finish line. Ah, well.
