If there is one thing I have a love-hate relationship with, it is waiting. My patience wears thin quite easily; at times, I have enough of it. When there are things to be done, I set my mind to finishing them at the most plausible time. I'm agitated when everything needed is ready, yet nothing gets started.
When we go shopping, the hubby often takes ages choosing which to try out, then spends even more time deciding whether to buy them. So the moment he confirms he liked something, I'd grab it and bring it to the counter; otherwise, he would change his mind and would have to find another. (Most wives may take hours longer than their husbands, but that is not true for us, at least, because we switched, lol).
That said, there are also times when I go with the flow, acknowledge and embrace the space, sit somewhere comfortable or do something else, and enjoy the delay. Thanks to my little boy, who I realized had been teaching me the art of waiting.
A few days back, the rain poured when we were about to leave BC. "Let's wait out a bit," the hubby suggested. Our Yongi seemed to understand it and quietly went back to the mat and did his Superman pose, indicating he was going to relax.
Thinking about it now, he actually displays the art every day. While his meal is being prepared, we observed that he would lie flat on his stomach either on the couch or on the floor. He wouldn't budge even when we called him food was ready. He would stay that way for a few minutes, then slowly approach his bowl and eat. He was allowing his food to cool down before digging in (we often add cooked veggies or meat).
Whenever he wanted a cuddle and was told "in a little while please," he would heave a sigh, curl up close to me and stay really quiet until I took him to my lap. When told mommy will be working outside, he silently walks to the bedroom and takes a nap or plays by himself.
Waiting isn't easy, especially in our fast-paced culture. It makes me anxious. But I'm slowly learning to embrace, not resist it. Staying kind to myself as I continue to navigate it, grounding myself in the present moment, and cultivating patience.
