Fire in the Distance

It's the new week, and another hectic day in BC, which made time feel like it flew.

Anyway, taking out the trash earlier this evening, I was horrified to see a forest fire on the opposite mountain from where we are. My immediate thought was that it's gonna spread very fast with the strong breeze (winds) we are currently experiencing.

Whoever started the fire knew no one would be crazy enough to attempt to stop it, especially since it's already dark, and there are no access roads on that side of the mountain.

There are no communities or residents there, but if the fire spreads and climbs even higher, it may reach some of the residential areas below the provincial highway (I hope and pray it wouldn't). From what I can remember, that side of the mountain has a history of having forest fires every year.

I don't know if it's true, but I heard stories saying people are doing it intentionally, because they want the mushrooms to grow and thrive. Sort of "controlled fire" so it won't burn down the trees, just the shrubs, foliage, fallen branches, and such. I have my doubts. The fire would surely burn the tree trunks.

It is a big fire, from what I can see. And just like the previous ones, I think it will still be there when we wake up tomorrow morning, unless it rains tonight. It makes me wonder if people responsible for such fires had been found and charged before. But maybe not. Otherwise, they would have stopped doing it.

It's just sad that the forests are being destroyed, making them uninhabitable for certain creatures.
