Back to DD in the morning. Supposed to meet with the backhoe operator who will do the clearing job at the property, but he didn't show up. I wished he called to inform us he wasn't coming.
Anyhow, I thought it was time for me transfer some of the lettuce seedlings
to the hydro net cups. They look malnourished probably because they had been under the shade and haven't seen the sunshine for a few weeks now.
I only had 9 styro net cups and 12 plastic ones from Ramgo. I have forgotten to order a few more sets including grow boxes, but will do that soon.
The "how-to" (guide) indicated I need to use coco coir, but we only have cocodust and compost. The hubby said it's okay to use any of them. There's no harm in trying he teased, so why not?😊 This is our first attempt in growing veggies via deep water culture, and we are already deviating from the normal methods, lol!
Oh well, all the net cups have been filled with compost.
Then I slowly transferred the seedlings into them, making sure each had roots. We were adviced to placed them under the shade for two days before moving them into the grow box. That we will do.
But because there are plenty (and different types of) snails around here, t I have to protect the fragile seedlings from being tormented and eaten, so I took a carton box, laying a pvc board in its base (for stability), and then placed all the planted net cups in the enclosure.
I was just glad the box was the right size and it accommodated all 21 cups (I still didn't place the last one hence this only shows 20). Watered them a bit with a water bottle spray, and placed the box on the table in the patio.
They will remain under the shade per the instructions, and will be moved to their grow boxes afterwards. I'm quite excited to see how this lil experiment would go☺️
