Today I have the pleasure of inviting you to travel and walk through my province, Ciego de Ávila, known in the center of the island as the capital of Cuban voice-over artistry. I will show you some stories, anecdotes, colonial buildings, parks, the 'Abdala' theater, and the natural atmosphere of its streets as the day goes on.

Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a transitar y caminar mi provincia Ciego de Ávila, conocida en el centro de la isla, como la capital de la locución cubana. Les mostraré algunas historias, anécdotas, edificios coloniales, parques, el teatro 'Abdala' y ambiente natural de sus calles a medida que avanza el día.

This journey came to mind after having lunch at my favorite and affordable spot, without a doubt 'El Chef', after leaving work. The streets were empty and perfect for telling mysterious stories about my city of Ciego de Ávila.
Very close to where I was, the Alameda de la Locución Cubana is located. Many pass through here and don't know its symbolic status; it is a reminder of something that some ignore or prefer not to acknowledge, as it was proclaimed the capital of Cuban voice-over artistry.
Esta travesía se me ocurrió después de almorzar en mi lugar favorito y económico, sin dudas 'El Chef', luego de salir del trabajo. Las calles estaban vacías y perfectas para contar historias misteriosas de mi ciudad avileña.
Muy cerca de donde estaba, se ubica la Alameda de la Locución Cubana. Muchos pasan por aquí y no saben su estado simbólico; es un recordatorio de algo que algunos ignoran o prefieren no reconocer, siendo proclamada capital de la locución cubana.
From this land came names like Manolo Ortega, as well as Eddy Martín and Héctor Rodríguez, voices that made baseball and the great sports events of my country vibrate. In 2003 the city was officially declared the capital of voice-over artistry; it was not a coincidence, it was history and culture and a way of speaking, because for the people of Ciego de Ávila not only what is said matters, but how it is said, and that is also identity.
On this avenue, the sculpture captures that local emblem, which we proudly owe to so many compatriots who have been an expression in the different media of Radio and Television. Some are no longer with us, others are still an expression of continuity, but all born in this soil have raised their voice to the heights of Cuba and the world.
De esta tierra salieron nombres como Manolo Ortega, también Eddy Martín y Héctor Rodríguez, voces que hicieron vibrar el béisbol y los grandes eventos deportivos de mi país. En 2003 oficialmente la ciudad fue declarada capital de la locución; no fue casualidad, fue historia y cultura y manera de hablar, porque en los avileños no solo importa lo que se dice, importa cómo se dice, y eso también es identidad.
En esta avenida la escultura recoge ese emblema lugareño, que con orgullo le debemos a tantos compatriotas que han sido expresión en los diferentes medios de la Radio y la Televisión. Unos ya no están con nosotros, otros aún son expresión de continuidad, pero todos nacidos en este terruño han puesto su voz en lo alto de Cuba y el mundo.
The Route feels honored to speak about this little piece of space in the city, which has contributed so much to all of us. Its most striking element is precisely a large microphone, turned into a symbol of that tradition.
I remembered that moving forward in these stories does not mean the path is easy, but rather having the courage to keep walking, learning, and discovering a little more each day.
La Ruta, se siente en el honor de hablar de este pedacito de espacio en la ciudad, que tanto nos ha aportado a todos. Su elemento más llamativo es precisamente un gran micrófono, convertido en símbolo de esa tradición.
Recordé que, avanzar en estas historias no significa que el camino sea fácil, sino tener el valor de continuar caminando, conociendo y aprendiendo un poco cada día.
This area of Máximo Gómez Park, as you can see in the images, is located in the center of 2 residential buildings, 9 stories high with great architectural value. Its leafy trees, statue of the independence fighter, and benches invite you to stop for a few minutes to observe the slow rhythm of the city.
It is the very characteristic combination of the city: heritage, culture, architecture, and urban life.
Esta zona del parque Máximo Gómez, como pueden ver en las imágenes esta situado en el centro de 2 edificios poblacionales, de 9 plantas con gran valor arquitectónico. Sus árboles frondosos, estatua del militar independentista y bancos invitan a detenerse unos minutos para observar el ritmo pausado de la ciudad.
Es la combinación tan característica de la ciudad: patrimonio, cultura, arquitectura y vida urbana.
Already on my way to the theater, you can see characteristic features of my city: facades with porticoes, columns, and wide sidewalks. On Friday there was a nationwide power outage, and that is why people are a bit stressed, along with profound discouragement.
I continue along the boulevard, its shopping centers, and so I move on to the next story, named years ago the Capitolio Cinema.
Ya camino al teatro, se aprecian rasgos característicos de mi ciudad: las fachadas con portales, columnas y amplias aceras. El viernes hubo una desconexión del sistema eléctrico nacional y por eso hay un poco de estrés en las personas, además desánimo abismal.
Continuó por el boulevar, sus centros comerciales y así avanzó a la siguiente historia nombrada en años atrás el Cine Capitolio.
It is precisely that proximity that makes walking through the city center interesting: in just a few streets you can find architecture, religion, art, history, commerce, parks, and cultural spaces.
That is why walking through its streets is much more than observing buildings. It is getting closer to the memory of artists, announcers, actors, musicians, and citizens who have contributed to building the culture of Ciego de Ávila.
Es precisamente esa proximidad la que hace interesante recorrer el centro a pie: en pocas calles pueden encontrarse arquitectura, religión, arte, historia, comercio, parques y espacios culturales.
Por eso, recorrer sus calles es mucho más que observar edificios. Es acercarse a la memoria de artistas, locutores, actores, músicos y ciudadanos que han contribuido a construir la cultura avileña.
This Joaquín Agüero Street is home to one of the town's ancient wonders, the 'Iriondo' theater. In its time it was the sixth largest in capacity on the Island, always offering a varied, high-quality film program that included educational documentaries, and both the latest technological advances and world premieres arrived with great speed.
Currently, it is not operating, but it does have some sales of food products and free eye exams for staff.
Esta calle Joaquín Agüero alberga una de las maravillas antiguas del pueblo, el teatro 'Iriondo'. En su época fue el sexto de mayor capacidad en la Isla, brindó siempre una variada programación cinematográfica, de gran calidad, que incluía documentales didácticos y tanto los últimos adelantos tecnológicos como los estrenos mundiales llegaban con gran rapidez.
Actualmente, no está funcionando pero si tiene algunas ventas de productos comestibles y graduación de la vista al personal.
Did you know that Ciego de Ávila had a cinema called Capitolio? Well yes, and it was right here, where the Abdala Hall is today. The Capitolio cinema was inaugurated in 1924 and was one of the first venues in the city to offer weekend matinees, but this place still had a few more lives.
Here there was also a bowling alley, and later an Office Center operated.
Sabías que Ciego de Ávila tuvo un cine llamado Capitolio? Pues sí, y estaba justamente aquí, donde hoy está la Sala Abdala. El cine Capitolio fue inaugurado en 1924 y fue una de las primeras salas de la ciudad, en ofrecer matiné los fines de semana, pero este lugar todavía tuvo unas cuantas vidas más.

Over time, the Abdala Theater arrived, which many of us have known since childhood. I remember coming to see puppet shows and a festival of amateur artists that I still hold in my memory. And the curious thing is that, although the place has changed several times, it is still part of the city's culture.
Today it continues to operate and the theater is still there, with the work of the Polichinela Group, one of the most famous theater companies on the island.
Con el tiempo llegó el Teatro Abdala, que muchos de nosotros conocemos desde niños. Yo recuerdo venir a ver espectáculos de títeres y un festival de artistas aficionados que todavía tengo en la memoria. Y lo curioso es que, aunque el lugar ha cambiado varias veces, sigue siendo parte de la cultura en la ciudad.
Hoy continúa funcionando y ahí sigue el teatro, con el trabajo del Grupo Polichinela, una agrupación de las más famosas de la isla en el ámbito teatral.
The photograph of the interior is especially expressive. In it appear small balconies with fairies, puppet characters, and artistic paintings, elements that immediately convey the place's connection to the world of imagination.
The Abdala thus represents a different dimension of Ciego de Ávila's performing heritage: a theater that is close, popular, and linked to the creation of art for different generations.
La fotografía del interior resulta especialmente expresiva. En ella aparecen pequeños balcones con hadas, personajes de títeres y pinturas de carácter artístico, elementos que transmiten inmediatamente la relación del lugar con el mundo de la imaginación.
El Abdala representa así una dimensión diferente del patrimonio escénico avileño: un teatro cercano, popular y vinculado a la creación de arte para distintas generaciones.
Already on the way back home, José Martí Park is located, one of the main public spaces. It is an urban meeting point surrounded by important buildings and places of interest. Its statue marks the center of the park and receives the numerous offerings of those who pay tribute to the National Hero of Cuba.
In conclusion, my locality is a place where voices have memory, theaters tell stories, and every portico seems to hold a piece of Cuba's life.
Ya de regreso al hogar, se localiza el parque José Martí, uno de los principales espacios públicos. Constituye un punto de encuentro urbano rodeado de importantes edificios y lugares de interés. Su estatua marca el centro del parque y recibe las numerosas ofrendas de aquellos que rinden homenaje al Héroe Nacional de Cuba.
En conclusión, mi localidad es un lugar donde las voces tienen memoria, los teatros cuentan historias y cada portal parece guardar un pedazo de la vida de Cuba.
